BMW Motorrad Malaysia has introduced the latest variant of the BMW R 1300 GS, adding the new Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) to the adventure motorcycle’s extensive range of technology, touring and comfort features.
Introduced to the Malaysian market at the Malaysia Autoshow in 2024, the BMW R 1300 GS has established itself in the adventure touring segment. The latest variant builds on its combination of performance, control and long-distance capability with ASA as part of an enhanced Dynamic Package.
The package also includes Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA), Gear Shift Assistant Pro, Riding Modes Pro and Sports Brake.
Automated Shift Assistant Simplifies the Riding Experience
The new Automated Shift Assistant represents the latest development in BMW Motorrad’s gearshift technology, automating clutch control and gear shifting while retaining the dynamic riding experience associated with the BMW R 1300 GS.
With no need for manual clutch operation, ASA is designed to make starting, stopping and manoeuvring easier while allowing riders to focus more closely on the road and riding conditions.
Riders can choose between manual and fully automated shifting depending on their preferred riding style and conditions.
In “M” shift mode, riders select gears using the foot shift lever while the Automated Shift Assistant manages clutch operation automatically. In “D” shift mode, gear changes are fully automated according to engine speed and load, providing smoother and more comfortable shifting.
Whether riding on everyday roads, tackling inclines or venturing off-road, ASA is designed to complement the BMW R 1300 GS’s boxer engine while making the motorcycle more accessible and relaxed to ride.
Equipped for Touring and Long-Distance Riding
Beyond the Automated Shift Assistant and Dynamic Package, the BMW R 1300 GS comes with a range of equipment designed for everyday riding and longer adventures.
The Touring Package includes preparation for a GPS device, a Central Locking System, Hand Protector Extension and left and right case holders.
The Comfort Package adds a Passenger Kit, electrically adjustable windscreen and main stand, while Adaptive Height Adjustment, a Deluxe headlight and M lightweight battery come as standard.
The BMW R 1300 GS with Automated Shift Assistant is available in White Aluminium Metallic, a new colour option, as well as Black Storm Metallic.
1,300 cc Boxer Engine Produces 145 hp
At the heart of the BMW R 1300 GS with Automated Shift Assistant is BMW Motorrad’s two-cylinder boxer engine.
With a displacement of 1,300 cc, the engine develops 107 kW (145 hp) at 7,750 rpm and maximum torque of 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm. BMW Motorrad describes it as the most powerful series-produced BMW boxer engine to date. The current BMW Motorrad Malaysia specification also lists the R 1300 GS with a 1,300 cc engine and 145 hp output.
The motorcycle’s compact configuration places the gearbox beneath the engine, contributing to a total weight of 237 kg according to BMW Motorrad Malaysia.
The combination of the boxer engine, compact construction and updated shift technology is designed to maintain the R 1300 GS’s performance and adventure capabilities while making the riding experience more effortless.
BMW R 1300 GS with ASA Starts from RM2,048 Monthly
BMW Motorrad Malaysia is also offering financing options through BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia.
Under the stated financing plan, ownership of the BMW R 1300 GS with Automated Shift Assistant starts from RM2,048 per month. The estimate is based on Straight Line Financing at a 4.50% flat rate, with a 90% loan over seven years.
Owners can also access BMW Motorrad Malaysia’s Premium Engine Oil Inclusive, Service Inclusive and Warranty Extension programmes.
The BMW R 1300 GS with Automated Shift Assistant is priced at RM145,000 on the road, excluding insurance, and comes with BMW Motorrad Malaysia’s three-year warranty and three-year roadside assistance programmes. The launch price has also been reported locally at RM145,000.
The latest BMW R 1300 GS variant combines BMW Motorrad’s established adventure touring platform with automated shifting technology, expanded touring equipment and comfort-focused features, offering Malaysian riders another configuration of the R 1300 GS for both everyday journeys and longer adventures.
