Huawei to boost Malaysia’s AI skills, innovation, and partnerships across ASEAN

Huawei Cloud has unveiled bold plans to nurture 30,000 Malaysian AI talents and develop 200 local AI partners within the next three years, as part of its mission to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence across Malaysia and the wider ASEAN region.

The announcements were made during the Huawei Cloud AI Ecosystem Summit APAC 2025, held alongside the ASEAN AI Summit, and attended by Malaysia’s Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and Minister of Digital, YB Gobind Singh Deo.

In his keynote, Gobind Singh Deo emphasised the importance of ethics and sustainability in Malaysia’s AI journey, noting the country’s efforts are central not only to national growth but also to ASEAN’s digital transformation. He highlighted the role of the National AI Office and the upcoming “AI Technology Action Plan 2026–2030” in ensuring AI adoption remains ethical, sustainable, and high-value.

Huawei Malaysia’s CEO, Simon Sun, outlined the Huawei Malaysia AI Talent Programme, which will equip students, government officials, industry leaders, and other stakeholders with critical AI skills. He also announced plans to strengthen local AI capacity by fostering partnerships with top Chinese AI companies, encouraging AI investments, and launching new Malaysian AI ventures.

The initiative forms part of the Huawei Cloud APAC AI Ecosystem, designed to create an inclusive AI landscape by empowering people, boosting local innovation, and facilitating cross-border collaboration.

Vice President of Huawei Cloud Marketing, Aka Dai, described cloud and AI as the “core engines driving ASEAN’s innovation and growth” and reaffirmed Huawei’s 26-year investment in the region. Huawei Cloud’s infrastructure now spans 34 global regions and 101 availability zones, including five regions and 17 AZs in ASEAN, offering ultra-low latency and extensive AI capabilities.

The summit brought together around 300 delegates, featuring insights from AI industry leaders and case studies of Huawei Cloud’s AI applications across more than 30 industries and 500 real-world scenarios worldwide.

With its Pangu Models and ModelArts AI toolchain, Huawei Cloud enables enterprises to rapidly build customised AI models, paving the way for innovation in sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, smart cities, mining, and transportation.
