Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has previewed the locally assembled all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 AMG Line in Singapore, introducing an internal combustion engine counterpart to the recently launched fully electric CLA.
The new model gives Malaysian customers greater choice between powertrains while bringing together the distinctive CLA design with electrified performance, intelligent technology and enhanced comfort.
As a locally assembled model, the CLA 200 AMG Line is positioned within Mercedes-Benz’s latest compact vehicle portfolio and is designed to combine everyday usability with improved efficiency.
“The all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 AMG Line reflects our commitment to offering customers in Malaysia the freedom to choose the powertrain that best suits their needs. As a locally assembled model, it combines the unmistakable character of the CLA with outstanding efficiency, intelligent technology, and elevated comfort, complementing the all-new electric CLA within our most advanced compact vehicle portfolio yet,” said Martin Schulz, CEO & President, Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia and Head of Region, Mercedes-Benz Cars Southeast Asia.
Kevin Barbian, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia, said the model balances its expressive design with efficient everyday driving.
“The all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 AMG Line offers customers an ideal balance of expressive design and effortless everyday driving. Its distinctive illuminated radiator grille creates an unmistakable presence, while the ability to drive on electric power at urban speeds, coast efficiently, and recuperate energy across all eight gears delivers a smooth and highly efficient driving experience,” he said.
Efficiency meets electrified performance

The CLA 200 AMG Line features a new electrified eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with an integrated electric motor. This allows the vehicle to drive on electric power under certain urban driving conditions, coast with the drivetrain decoupled and recover energy through regenerative braking.
With fuel consumption of around five litres per 100 kilometres and below, Mercedes-Benz positions the CLA 200 AMG Line as its most efficient vehicle with an internal combustion engine in this segment.
The vehicle is powered by a 1.5-litre engine producing 163hp, with a system output of 184hp and system torque of 330Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 8.0 seconds and has a top speed of 232km/h.
The electrified powertrain also allows electric driving at urban speeds when less than 22kW of power is required, typically during gentle town driving.
The CLA can also engage in what Mercedes-Benz describes as “electric sailing”, allowing it to coast efficiently with the drivetrain decoupled at speeds of up to around 100km/h.
Another feature is the ability to recuperate energy in all eight gears, recovering up to 25kW of energy. The electric motor can also start the combustion engine without the need for a conventional pinion starter, helping make engine starts and transitions between the two motors almost imperceptible.
Compact 48-volt hybrid technology
At the heart of the electrified system is the new 8G-eDCT eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which integrates the electric motor and its components directly into the transmission.
This compact arrangement helps keep the powertrain efficient while conserving space within the vehicle.
The electric motor is powered by a new 48-volt lithium-ion battery with an energy content of up to 1.3kWh. The battery has been designed to be compact and lightweight, supporting the vehicle’s electrified driving capabilities without requiring a dedicated high-voltage battery system.
CLA design with a distinctive illuminated grille
Visually, the all-new CLA 200 AMG Line closely follows the design of its fully electric counterpart.
The locally assembled model features an AMG Line exterior, 19-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, MULTIBEAM LED headlights, surround lighting with animated Mercedes-Benz pattern projections and a large panoramic roof.
Five exterior paint finishes are available: Cosmic Black, Polar White, High-Tech Silver, Sheer Blue and Aqua Mint.
One of the key visual differences between the combustion-engine CLA and its electric sibling is the front grille.
The CLA 200 features a classic radiator grille with a central Mercedes-Benz star and chrome Mercedes-Benz pattern. It is framed by an LED light guide, with illuminated edges when the headlights are switched on.
MB.OS brings AI-powered connectivity
Inside, the CLA 200 AMG Line shares much of the technology found in the fully electric CLA.
Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) and the fourth-generation MBUX infotainment system underpin the vehicle’s digital experience, with artificial intelligence from Microsoft and Google integrated into MBUX.
The MBUX Virtual Assistant uses a multi-agent approach, selecting the most suitable AI source for different tasks. This allows drivers to interact with the system conversationally and receive answers and follow-up information without repeatedly providing the same context.
The vehicle’s software can also receive over-the-air updates, including updates to driving assistance systems. Mercedes-Benz said this allows the CLA to receive new functions and improvements throughout its ownership period.
Google Maps powers intelligent navigation
The all-new CLA also introduces a navigation experience based on Google Maps, developed through a partnership between Google and Mercedes-Benz.
The system integrates Google Cloud’s Automotive AI Agent with Google Maps, while MBUX Navigation combines route guidance with a real-time 3D representation of the vehicle’s surroundings.
The integration is designed to provide drivers with greater situational awareness by displaying what the vehicle detects and how its assistance systems are supporting the driver.
Advanced driving and parking assistance
Safety and driver assistance features include Distance Assist DISTRONIC, while additional comfort and assistance functions are bundled under MB.DRIVE.
The CLA also comes with MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST 360, providing additional support when manoeuvring and parking.
The cabin combines AMG Line styling with a fully digital interior.
These systems complement the model’s wider suite of safety and assistance technologies, bringing the CLA in line with Mercedes-Benz’s latest approach to connected and assisted driving.
MBUX Superscreen takes centre stage

The all-new CLA 200 AMG Line features an AMG Line Sports Seat Package, ARTICO leather and MICROCUT microfibre upholstery, light carbon-grain aluminium trim elements and a multifunction sports steering wheel in Nappa leather.
Dominating the dashboard is the floating MBUX Superscreen, which stretches across the width of the interior behind a large glass surface.
It incorporates a 10.25-inch driver display, a 14-inch central display and a 14-inch front passenger display.
The front passenger display provides access to more than 40 apps, video streaming and Disney+, while all three displays are powered by high-performance chips and real-time graphics from the Unity Game Engine.
For additional cabin comfort, THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control allows the driver and front passenger to set their preferred temperatures independently.
Pre-booking starts from RM275,000
