Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has presented an early preview of the all-new electric Mercedes-Benz GLC in Singapore, bringing the brand’s globally best-selling model into the electric era with a purpose-developed electric architecture.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC electric combines a 310kW (421hp) electric drive system with 800Nm of torque and an electric range of up to 616 kilometres according to WLTP.
Its 800-volt electrical architecture supports DC fast charging of up to 320kW, allowing the vehicle to add up to 255km of WLTP range in 10 minutes under suitable charging conditions.
In Malaysia, the all-new electric GLC will be offered in two variants: the GLC 300 4MATIC electric AVANTGARDE, with an estimated price from RM389,000, and the GLC 300 4MATIC electric AMG Line Plus, estimated from RM399,000.
A New Electric Interpretation of the GLC
The all-new electric GLC retains the proportions of the Mercedes-Benz midsize SUV while introducing a new design language developed for the electric era.
Its front is defined by an illuminated grille featuring a wide chrome frame, smoked-glass-look mesh structure and integrated contour lighting. The grille incorporates 942 individually backlit polycarbonate dots, creating an animated pixel graphic, while the central Mercedes-Benz star and surrounding contour are also illuminated.
The DIGITAL LIGHT headlights complement the grille, with the Mercedes-Benz star and visor-style daytime running lights, marker lights and indicators reinforcing the vehicle’s identity.
At the rear, two-part tail lights feature a star motif that animates when the vehicle is unlocked or charging. The AMG Line Plus adds an AMG spoiler lip for a sportier appearance.
Aerodynamic detailing also contributes to an aerodynamic drag coefficient of Cd 0.26, supporting the vehicle’s efficiency.
The AVANTGARDE rides on 20-inch multi-spoke light-alloy wheels, while the AMG Line Plus features 21-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels.
The GLC 300 4MATIC electric is available in Obsidian Black, MANUFAKTUR Opalite White Bright, High-Tech Silver, Lavender Silver and Sodalite Blue. The AMG Line Plus adds MANUFAKTUR Alpine Grey Solid and MANUFAKTUR Patagonia Red Metallic.
Digital Luxury with the MBUX HYPERSCREEN
Inside, the electric GLC combines Mercedes-Benz’s focus on luxury with an increasingly digital driving experience.
At the centre is the new seamless MBUX HYPERSCREEN, measuring 99.3 centimetres (39.1 inches) across the width of the cockpit. It uses high-resolution displays and matrix backlighting with more than 1,000 individual LEDs.
The fourth generation of Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) is powered by MB.OS, the company’s operating system designed to allow the vehicle’s functions and digital services to evolve through updates.
The enhanced MBUX Zero Layer places frequently used information, suggestions and applications within easy reach, while users can organise applications into personalised folders in a smartphone-style interface.
The system also incorporates real-time graphics powered by the Unity Game Engine and a display algorithm designed to improve readability in sunlight.
AI-Powered MBUX Brings New Voice Interaction
Artificial intelligence plays a larger role in the fourth-generation MBUX system, which integrates AI from Microsoft and Google.
The MBUX Virtual Assistant uses a “Multi Agent Approach” to handle different types of requests within the same conversation. Depending on the context, it can draw on different sources for navigation, general knowledge or vehicle-related questions.
The system supports more natural, multi-turn conversations and can retain context throughout an interaction.
For general knowledge, ChatGPT and Microsoft Bing Search operate as agents, while Google Cloud’s Automotive AI Agent provides navigation-related assistance using information from the Google Maps platform.
A third agent acts as a vehicle expert, providing information about the driver’s own car.
The virtual assistant can be activated using the familiar “Hey Mercedes” command and appears as an animated Mercedes-Benz star on the Zero Layer. Additional avatar designs include a human-like representation and the expressive “LittleBenz” character.
More Space for Passengers and Luggage
The electric GLC also offers greater interior space, supported by a 2,972mm wheelbase, which is eight centimetres longer than that of the combustion-engine GLC.
Front passengers gain an additional 13mm of legroom, while rear passengers gain 47mm. Headroom increases by 46mm at the front and 17mm at the rear.
Luggage capacity stands at 570 litres behind the rear seats and increases to 1,740 litres with the rear backrests folded. A further 128 litres of storage is available in the front luggage compartment, or frunk.
The rear seat backrest can be electrically folded in a 40:20:40 split, while the Boot Comfort Package allows the loading floor to be lowered by 80mm for taller objects.
A Cabin Designed Around Comfort
The AVANTGARDE features comfort seats available in black or beech brown/black leather upholstery, while the AMG Line Plus comes with the AMG Line Sports Seat Package in black leather with contrasting red topstitching.
Both seat types use a one-piece manufacturing process and feature double stitching.
Heat- and noise-insulating acoustic glass contributes to a quieter cabin, while ambient lighting extends across the dashboard, doors and SKY CONTROL panoramic roof.
The switchable panoramic roof can transition between transparent and opaque states and is divided into nine individually adjustable segments.
At night, 162 integrated illuminated stars can create a starry-sky effect, with 64 available colours or synchronisation with the selected ambient lighting theme.
Electric Performance Meets Long-Distance Range
The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC electric produces 310kW (421hp) and 800Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds before reaching a top speed of 210km/h.
Its 85kWh usable battery provides a WLTP range of between 523km and 616km, depending on specification and conditions.
The electric drivetrain uses a permanently excited synchronous motor at the rear, developed in-house by Mercedes-Benz, with a two-speed gearbox designed to combine acceleration and efficiency.
The first gear supports acceleration, urban driving and towing, while the second gear is optimised for higher speeds and motorway efficiency.
The all-wheel-drive system can engage or disengage the front electric drive unit when required, supporting energy efficiency while maintaining traction.
800-Volt Architecture Enables Rapid Charging
One of the key features of the new electric GLC is its 800-volt electrical architecture.
DC fast charging is supported at up to 320kW, with the battery capable of charging from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes under suitable conditions. Mercedes-Benz states that up to 215–255km of WLTP range can be added within 10 minutes, depending on conditions.
The vehicle also supports AC charging at up to 22kW, with a full 0–100% charge taking approximately four hours using a suitable 22kW AC charger.
The 85kWh lithium-ion battery uses an anode combining silicon oxide with graphite, while the battery architecture has been designed for modularity, serviceability and manufacturing flexibility.
Intelligent Charging for Longer Journeys
The electric GLC also incorporates Mercedes-Benz Navigation with Electric Intelligence, which automatically plans charging stops based on factors including route conditions, topography, temperature, traffic, driving style and available charging infrastructure.
The system can also take charging capacity, payment options and weather information into account when calculating energy requirements.
Charging stops can be adjusted dynamically, while the system preconditions the high-voltage battery to help achieve optimal DC charging performance when the vehicle reaches a selected charging station.
Through MB.CHARGE Public, drivers can access public charging networks using a single charging contract. Charging costs can be viewed through the MBUX display or Mercedes-Benz app, including the cost per kilowatt-hour or minute and estimated total charging cost.
TERRAIN Mode Adds Off-Road Capability
Beyond ECO, COMFORT, SPORT and INDIVIDUAL driving modes, the electric GLC introduces a TERRAIN mode for dirt and gravel roads.
When activated, the front axle of the 4MATIC system automatically engages while the drivetrain, steering and braking characteristics are adjusted.
When equipped with DIGITAL LIGHT, the off-road lighting function can provide wider illumination to help drivers identify obstacles.
The “transparent bonnet” function, used with MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST 360, provides a virtual view of the area beneath the front of the vehicle. Camera images from the front and exterior mirror cameras are combined on the central display, with a trajectory overlay helping drivers select a suitable path.
Safety and Driver Assistance
The all-new electric GLC comes with an extensive suite of safety and driver assistance technologies.
Its hardware includes up to 10 cameras, five radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors, supported by a high-performance computer designed to accommodate future functions and over-the-air updates.
Mercedes-Benz also offers the MB.DRIVE suite of assistance features.
MB.DRIVE ASSIST combines Distance Assist DISTRONIC with Steering Assist to provide a SAE Level 2 driving assistance system. Steering Assist helps keep the vehicle centred in its lane, while Lane Change Assist can facilitate lane changes when the indicator stalk is operated.
MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST 360 adds enhanced surround-view displays using a 360-degree camera.
The vehicle also features PRE-SAFE occupant protection technology, up to 11 airbags and an MBUX dashcam.
Entertainment and Personalised Digital Features
The MBUX system supports more than 40 apps across categories including audio, video, productivity and entertainment, with the portfolio set to expand over time.
The system supports video streaming while the vehicle is stationary, while the front passenger can continue to use selected video functions while driving.
The in-car app store also provides access to video conferencing applications, including the updated “Meetings for Teams” app.
Disney+ is available through the MBUX infotainment system in more than 40 countries, subject to the relevant Digital Extra and an active subscription.
The electric GLC also supports Dolby Atmos through Apple CarPlay, while Mercedes-Benz’s Sound Experience provides several personalised acoustic environments.
Sustainability Extends Across the Vehicle Lifecycle
Mercedes-Benz said the all-new electric GLC achieves a two-thirds reduction in carbon footprint across its lifecycle compared with the current combustion-powered GLC.
More than two-thirds of the vehicle’s aluminium requirements are sourced as carbon-reduced aluminium, including components such as the body, steering knuckles, wheels and battery housing.
The new battery generation also achieves an approximately 30% reduction in carbon footprint per cell compared with conventional production, supported by carbon reduction measures across cell manufacturing and the use of renewable energy.
The company is also increasing the use of secondary and renewable materials. The seat foam, for example, contains around 30% recycled content using the mass-balance approach.
Electric GLC to Be Produced in Bremen
The all-new electric GLC will be produced at the Mercedes-Benz Bremen plant alongside vehicles with conventional drivetrains.
The plant uses 100% green electricity and operates net carbon-neutrally for the production of the model.
Electric drive units are supplied from Sebes in Romania, electric axles from Hamburg and batteries from Kamenz in Germany.
Mercedes-Benz said the electric GLC forms part of a flexible global production network, with models based on the new electric architecture also set to be produced in Kecskemét, Hungary, and Beijing, China.
Pre-Booking Opens in Malaysia
The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC electric AVANTGARDE and GLC 300 4MATIC electric AMG Line Plus are available for pre-booking in Malaysia at estimated prices starting from RM389,000 and RM399,000, respectively.
The first 100 customers who pre-book the all-new electric GLC will receive passes to the upcoming exclusive Mercedes-AMG F1 Party, subject to terms and conditions.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is also offering the Agility+ financing plan from an estimated RM4,288 per month for the AVANTGARDE and RM4,388 per month for the AMG Line Plus.
The plan includes a fifth-year extended limited warranty, Star Gold and four Compact Service Packages, with additional terms and conditions applying.
The all-new electric GLC marks Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s latest move to expand its electric vehicle offering, combining the familiar midsize SUV format with longer-range electric driving, rapid charging and a more connected digital experience.
