Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs or PMKS in Malaysia) across the East Coast are stepping up their sustainability game with the PMKS Sustainability Series 2025, organised by SME Corp. Malaysia under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP). Held from 16–17 July 2025 at the TTI Convention Center, the two-day programme featured a blend of strategic knowledge-sharing sessions, practical workshops, and open community outreach through the PMKS Open Day.
ESG in Action: From Concept to Practice
At the heart of the event was the ESG 2025 Workshop: From Theory to Practice, which offered hands-on guidance to help MSMEs embed Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into their operations. The session drew directly from the Quick Guide to ESG for MSMEs published by SME Corp., aiming to help businesses align with sustainability expectations across supply chains.
By adopting ESG, MSMEs are not only ensuring business continuity and compliance – they’re also gaining access to new market opportunities and green financing avenues.
Digitalisation for Better Governance: Understanding e-Invoicing
Day Two focused on e-Invoicing for MSMEs, a seminar designed to support MSMEs in their digital transformation journey. Participants were introduced to key concepts and workflows aligned with The Inland Board of Malaysia (IRBM) guidelines.
Delivered in an interactive format, the seminar gave entrepreneurs step-by-step training on using the MyInvois portal, empowering businesses to implement e-Invoicing seamlessly.
“The adoption of e-Invoicing supports the governance component of ESG by improving transparency and compliance in financial reporting. This is a crucial step toward a more efficient financial ecosystem. MSMEs should take small, confident steps now to build a more resilient future,” said Encik Rizal Dato’ Nainy, CEO of SME Corp. Malaysia.
PMKS Open Day: Building an Inclusive SME Ecosystem
Held on 17 July 2025, the PMKS Open Day @ Terengganu in collaboration with the Terengganu Entrepreneur Development Foundation (YPU) brought together government agencies, financiers, telcos and business leaders under one roof. The event was officiated by YB Dato’ Ariffin Bin Deraman, Chairman of the Terengganu State Committee for Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs.
Key highlights included:
- Pocket talks with industry experts
- Business networking activities
- Advisory booths from agencies like TEKUN Nasional, SME Bank, YPU and Celcom
With 20 exhibition booths offering resources on financing, training, and digitalisation, the event provided a one-stop hub for PMKS looking to grow sustainably.
A Collaborative Push for Sustainable Growth
The PMKS Sustainability Series 2025 is part of PKSlestari, an initiative launched in 2023 to deepen ESG awareness among Malaysian MSMEs. This year’s Terengganu leg showcased active collaboration between SME Corp., local authorities, financial institutions, and subject matter experts from the Malaysian Association of Public Advocacy for Nature (MAPAN) and PwC Malaysia.
With policy direction and hands-on tools now in place, the initiative marks a meaningful step forward in preparing MSMEs for a greener, more competitive economic future.
