This timely engagement marked a significant step toward fostering a collaborative framework for the development of Malaysia’s gig economy. The participating platforms commend the government’s openness to industry perspectives in working toward a balanced approach—one that ensures worker protections while preserving the flexibility, innovation, and growth that define the sector.

As platforms collectively supporting tens of thousands of gig workers nationwide, the participants firmly believe that constructive, respectful dialogue—rooted in a shared vision for progress—can position Malaysia as a global leader in crafting inclusive and forward-looking digital economy policies.

Particular encouragement was drawn from the Deputy Prime Minister’s mention of a follow-up townhall, which is viewed as a key opportunity for ongoing stakeholder engagement. Sustained dialogue is considered crucial in developing practical, inclusive policies that reflect the real needs and aspirations of gig workers, digital platforms, and regulators alike.

With thoughtful collaboration, Malaysia can ensure a seamless transition in the evolving world of work—one that safeguards workers while promoting innovation, economic empowerment, and sustainable growth within the digital economy.
