Optics Valley has launched the Optics Valley International Communication Alliance to help local technology companies strengthen their international communication capabilities and expand into global markets.
The alliance was inaugurated on 13 September under the theme “Chasing the Light, Connecting the World”, bringing together representatives from 13 founding member companies, including FiberHome, China Construction Third Engineering Bureau, HGTECH, YHKT Entertainment, Huakang Clean and Shenglong Electric, alongside representatives from more than 100 other Optics Valley enterprises.
Established by Optics Valley in collaboration with the News & Information Service Center of Xinhua News Agency and other partners, the alliance is designed to provide companies with access to international communication resources. Its services include overseas public opinion response and multilingual content production, supporting enterprises as they develop their brands and operations in overseas markets.
The initiative reflects Optics Valley’s growing focus on helping companies progress from “product export” to “brand export” as more of its technologies and products reach international audiences.
From Product Export to Brand Export
In recent years, Optics Valley’s innovations have gained greater visibility overseas through the international social media presence of “Optics Valley of China”. Products such as the Optics Valley Photon sky rail and driverless minibuses have also attracted international attention.
The alliance aims to build on this momentum by giving companies greater support in communicating with international audiences and responding to overseas public opinion.
Xinhua News Agency, China’s national news agency, has 184 overseas branches and established cooperative links with more than 2,000 media organisations worldwide, providing the alliance with an extensive international communication network.
According to Optics Valley, the alliance will act as a “navigator” for companies going global by helping them strengthen international branding while navigating different markets and audiences.
FiberHome Highlights Importance of Localisation
Li Lei, vice president of FiberHome and representative of the alliance’s founding members, highlighted the importance of combining global expansion with local operations.
FiberHome’s business currently covers more than 100 countries and regions, with wholly owned subsidiaries in 36 countries and overseas optical cable plants in Ecuador, Thailand and Hungary. At its Philippine subsidiary, locally hired employees account for more than 95 per cent of its workforce.
“We will stay committed to high-quality global expansion and to deepening localized operations, and, with the platform of the Optics Valley International Communication Alliance, we will not only export China’s advanced communication technologies and solutions, but also serve as a bridge for industrial cooperation and people-to-people connectivity between China and the rest of the world,” he said.
The alliance is therefore positioned not only as a communications platform, but also as a means of supporting companies as they build longer-term relationships in overseas markets.
Supporting Cross-Border Technology Businesses
Huakang Clean, another founding member, is a leading enterprise in China’s cleanroom industry and has identified international expansion as a core strategy for its 15th Five-Year Plan period.
The company has established a market presence across Southeast Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, South America and Africa, while exporting its cleanroom technology solutions.
Through the new alliance, Huakang Clean aims to deepen cross-border collaboration and strengthen its international brand building as it continues expanding overseas.
Think Tank Report Outlines Global Communication Strategy
A think tank report titled Going Global, Competing Worldwide: How ‘Optics Valley of China’ Polishes Its International Calling Card in Service of Building a Strong Nation in Science and Technology — Practices and Insights was also released during the ceremony.
Produced by Reference News Press and Reference Think Tank, the report examined Optics Valley’s approach to international communication and the overseas expansion of its leading enterprises.
According to the report, leading companies represented by the “Seven Stars of Optics Valley” have recorded average annual overseas revenue growth of more than 30 per cent.
It describes Optics Valley’s international communication approach through “one strategic direction and ten keywords”, highlighting areas including central-local coordination, AI empowerment, collective overseas expansion and tailored strategies for different markets.
AI and International Communication
The report also identified several areas for Optics Valley to consider as it strengthens its international communication capabilities.
These include elevating the Optics Valley story from individual corporate activity to a broader national narrative, using AI as a global knowledge-service infrastructure for international communication, and developing communication capabilities as an industrial capability in its own right.
The report’s recommendations reflect the growing role of technology in how companies communicate with international audiences, manage their global reputation and develop brands across different markets.
Training for Overseas Communication
A training session on overseas communication capacity building was held alongside the alliance’s inauguration.
David Wei, founder of Vision Knight Capital, and Cao Yang, deputy director of the International Communication Department of the News & Information Service Center of Xinhua News Agency, were invited to deliver lectures.
The session provided participating companies with further guidance on strengthening their overseas communication capabilities as they pursue international markets.
With the establishment of the Optics Valley International Communication Alliance, the region is seeking to give its technology companies a more structured platform for global communication, brand building and cross-border cooperation as they expand beyond China.
