Malaysia Healthcare Day to Drive Regional Partnerships

A key highlight of the Bangkok mission is the Malaysia Healthcare Day forum, which will bring together policy and regulatory experts, medical distributors and healthcare innovators to exchange knowledge and explore commercial collaborations.

MATRADE: Malaysia’s Healthcare Industry Is Globally Competitive

The forum will also signal Kuala Lumpur’s readiness to host International Healthcare Week 2027, reinforcing Malaysia’s ambition to become a leading regional hub for healthcare innovation, medical technology and international healthcare events.

“Our participation in Bangkok is aimed at showcasing Malaysia’s capabilities in the medical and healthcare sector,” said MATRADE Chief Executive Officer Abu Bakar Yusof.

“The outstanding global trust in Malaysian medical device exports, which reached RM34.54 billion, proves that our local players are capable of delivering world-class efficacy. Bringing these eight local manufacturers together under one pavilion allows us to spotlight the technology and sophistication that delegates can look forward to experiencing firsthand when Malaysia hosts IHW in Kuala Lumpur next year.”

Malaysia’s Healthcare and Life Sciences Sector Continues to Expand

Malaysia’s participation at IHW 2026 is supported by strong growth in the country’s life sciences sector.

In 2025, medical device exports reached RM34.54 billion, strengthening Malaysia’s position in global supply chains for surgical instruments and advanced medical consumables.

Pharmaceutical exports also rose to RM3.66 billion in 2025, reflecting the sector’s expanding international footprint.

Beyond manufacturing, Malaysia continues to strengthen its reputation as a global medical tourism destination. Supported by internationally accredited healthcare facilities, a skilled workforce and growing digital health capabilities, the country attracted 1.84 million international patients in 2025, generating RM3.34 billion in healthcare tourism revenue.

Strengthening Malaysia’s Position in Regional Healthcare

Through its dual strategy of showcasing Malaysian healthcare products and promoting Kuala Lumpur as the host city for IHW 2027, MATRADE aims to deepen Malaysia’s presence within the ASEAN healthcare industry while expanding opportunities for Malaysian healthcare exporters in global markets.
