Malaysia-Thailand digital partnerships strengthened with 10 MoUs signed, reaffirming regional ambition to build a connected, future-ready ASEAN through technology collaboration.

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has successfully led a digital trade mission to Bangkok under the DEX Connex Thailand 2025 programme. In partnership with MRANTI, the event resulted in over RM200 million worth of potential export opportunities, driven by 10 newly signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Malaysian tech firms and Thai partners.

Held alongside the Techsauce Global Summit 2025, the event reinforced Malaysia’s commitment to building cross-border digital ecosystems and unlocking new growth for local companies.

“DEX CONNEX goes beyond being an access programme to serving as a catalyst for strategic, cross-border collaborations that generate exports, attract investment and build resilience for our tech ecosystem,” said Anuar Fariz Fadzil, CEO of MDEC.

MoU Renewal Strengthens Government-Led Digital Cooperation

A key highlight of the event was the renewal of MDEC’s MoU with Thailand’s Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa). Originally signed in 2023, the agreement supports ongoing collaboration between the two agencies. It also reflects both countries’ shared vision for a digitally inclusive and innovation-driven ASEAN.

Collaboration Across Borders: Driving Innovation, Investment & Market Access

The signed MoUs cover diverse areas of cooperation, including technology transfer, joint ventures, and market expansion. These partnerships are designed to ignite innovation, support digital startups and scale-ups, and open new commercial opportunities for businesses in both Malaysia and Thailand.

Participating Malaysian companies include Tapway, Supplycart, Payrecon, Wahdah Technologies, and others, with Thai counterparts spanning industries such as logistics, property, fintech, and digital media.

DEX Connex Thailand 2025 was organised with support from multiple agencies and institutions, including:

  • Embassy of Malaysia in Thailand
  • MATRADE Thailand
  • MITI
  • depa Thailand
  • True Digital Park
  • Techsauce
  • Malaysia-Thai Chamber of Commerce (MTCC)
  • GEN Thailand
  • The Diplomatic Council

Their involvement ensured Malaysian participants had the tools, networks, and insights needed to pursue long-term success in Thailand’s market.

Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur 2025

Building on this momentum, MDEC is set to host the Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur 2025 (SCEKL) this September. Themed “AI Cities: Shaping Our Digital Future”, the event will highlight Malaysia’s leadership in developing smart, inclusive, and sustainable digital cities.

Initiatives like DEX Connex are integral to Malaysia’s positioning as a regional digital hub, boosting innovation through strategic partnerships across ASEAN and beyond.
