Petaling Jaya, 11 February 2026— The 2026 ACCCIM Chinese New Year Reception was held at the Grand Lagoon Ballroom, Sunway Resort Hotel, bringing together government leaders, diplomats, industry representatives and members of the business community for an evening that underscored unity, mutual respect and economic cooperation.

The reception, organised by the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), was attended by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, members of the Cabinet, foreign diplomats, and leaders from business chambers and associations nationwide.

In his welcoming address, ACCCIM President Datuk Ng Yih Pyng said the early timing of the celebration reflected Malaysia’s multicultural values.

“This ceremony was held earlier, as the Chinese New Year celebration this time coincides with the beginning of the month of Ramadan… This adjustment shows the spirit of mutual respect, goodwill and tolerance among races and religions in our country, in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani,” he said.

Prime Minister Emphasises Respect, Rule of Law and National Harmony

In his keynote address, the Prime Minister highlighted the spirit of camaraderie reflected by the gathering and described the strong attendance as a sign of positive collaboration between businesses and the Government.

“This illustrates that there is good synergy between traders, entrepreneurs and the MADANI Government today,” he said.

He stressed that Malaysia’s diversity remained a source of strength, provided it was managed with respect and in accordance with the rule of law.

“Malaysia is a country of many races, many religions, many cultures… There is strength if we want to speak about strength.”

Addressing recent public sensitivities, he reaffirmed that issues must be handled with mutual respect and legal clarity.

“This country must be based on rules and law, not the whims and fancies of individuals… The law must be respected.”

Listening to Businesses, Strengthening the Economy

The Prime Minister also spoke about the Government’s ongoing engagement with business groups, including ACCCIM, and the importance of listening to feedback from SMEs and industry players.

“We heard earlier the issues raised by Datuk Ng, the issues of traders, small traders, SMEs that we must listen to and we try to resolve,” he said.

He noted that while Malaysia’s economic indicators remained positive, continuous improvements were necessary.

“Our economy in reality is indeed good… but there are conditions: this country is peaceful, its politics are stable, and there is respect and cooperation”

ACCCIM Calls for Practical Policy and Integrated SME Support

In his speech, Datuk Ng Yih Pyng highlighted the challenges facing businesses amid global uncertainty, rising costs and competitive pressures, while acknowledging the Government’s efforts to recalibrate policies.

“We appreciate the recalibration of measures that directly ease business pressures… faster tax refunds have strengthened cash flow for many SMEs.”

He also welcomed initiatives to improve labour management and enforcement.
“We are also grateful for the Government’s development of a direct hiring pathway for foreign workers… a more transparent and efficient system will help businesses plan better and operate sustainably.”

Datuk Ng emphasised the need for a more coordinated approach to SME transformation.

“We respectfully propose to strengthen and align existing initiatives into a dedicated National SMEs Transformation Platform.”

Year of the Horse: Looking Ahead with Confidence

Both speakers referenced the symbolism of the Year of the Horse as a call for progress and resilience.

“Chinese New Year 2026 marks the beginning of the Year of the Horse, which symbolises energy, speed and a new spirit”, said Datuk Ng.

Echoing this sentiment, the Prime Minister concluded with a message of shared advancement.

“So we want the economy to be fast, its education to be fast, everything to be fast, so that Malaysian society, from all races, all areas can progress together with us.”

The ACCCIM Chinese New Year Reception 2026 concluded with renewed commitments from both Government and business leaders to continue close cooperation to strengthen Malaysia’s economy, unity, and long-term prosperity.
