KUALA LUMPUR, 30 June – The Malaysian Retail Chain Association (MRCA) has set a target of RM120 million in transaction value for the upcoming 8th Franchise Expo Malaysia (FEM) 2025, scheduled to take place from August 21 to 23 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). This marks a 20% increase from the RM100 million achieved in 2024, underscoring the strength and adaptability of Malaysia’s retail and franchise industries while further establishing FEM as a premier regional platform for growth and collaboration.

Expanding Regional Participation

Over the course of three days, FEM 2025 is expected to draw approximately 18,000 visitors and will feature 364 booths spread across four exhibition halls at KLCC. Participants will include businesses from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Cambodia, and India. Notably, China and Taiwan will each host dedicated national pavilions to showcase regional innovations and offerings.

Strengthening International Trade Ties

A tripartite International Business Exchange program was also announced during the press conference, involving MRCA, the Royal Thai Embassy, and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). This initiative aims to enhance commercial cooperation and will support the creation of an international franchising pavilion at FEM 2025.

A Platform for Innovation and Collaboration

FEM Organising Chairperson Terry Tay said: “This year’s theme, ‘Invest in the Future’, reflects the power of collaboration in today’s interconnected world. With over 400 booths across four halls, this expo is a testament to the unwavering confidence in our industry.”

MRCA President, Datuk Ken Phua, echoed these sentiments, calling attention to the transformative opportunities arising from digitalisation, tourism resurgence, and regional integration.

“The theme, ‘Invest in the Future,’ captures the essence of what lies ahead. Strong consumer spending and the strengthening ringgit have created fertile ground for local businesses to thrive.”

Strategic Support and ASEAN Engagement

Tourism Malaysia has also been announced as a supporting partner of FEM 2025. As Malaysia takes on the ASEAN Chairmanship this year, the event provides a timely platform to engage regional retail stakeholders and promote Malaysia’s standing as a center for cultural, commercial, and hospitality excellence.

FEM’s Evolution and MRCA’s Vision

Since its launch in 2016 (formerly known as the Malaysia International Retail and Franchise (MIRF) exhibition), FEM has evolved into a flagship event in the Malaysian retail calendar. FEM 2025 aims to attract even more franchisees and retailers, supporting MRCA’s mission to nurture a resilient, innovative, and future-ready retail ecosystem.

Advancing the Retail Ecosystem

With over 550 MRCA member brands representing 40,000 outlets and 400,000 employees nationwide, the association continues to provide a vital platform for innovation, partnerships, and strategic collaboration within Malaysia’s evolving retail landscape.
