The inaugural seminar, held today at SME Corp. Malaysia’s headquarters in Platinum Sentral, brought together over 70 SMEs from various sectors. The series is designed to support SMEs in enhancing productivity, global competitiveness, and readiness for international expansion. It also aligns with the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) to upgrade SMEs from micro or small enterprises into medium-sized businesses and expand their market reach regionally and globally.
Key focus areas of the seminars include:
- Developing structured innovation learning plans;
- Embedding innovation into core business strategies; and
- Introducing practical tools for process innovation and technology adoption.
According to Mr. Rizal bin Dato’ Nainy, Chief Executive Officer of SME Corp. Malaysia,
“SME Corp. Malaysia believes that now is the opportune moment to organise this seminar, aimed at equipping SMEs with the knowledge and tools to scale up through innovation-driven strategies. By fostering innovation at the SME level, we aim to amplify their contribution to national productivity and ensure sustainable growth in an increasingly competitive global landscape.”
Ms. Teh Sook Ling, Executive Director of SHRDC, added, “We believe this partnership can benefit from our strength in developing a sustainable pool of highly skilled, innovative and able to support Malaysia’s transition into a digital economy. SHRDC plays a key role by providing relevant industry-driven training to meet the needs of businesses today.”
The next two seminars in the series are scheduled for July and August 2025 in Kuala Lumpur. Attendance will be by invitation, based on a special assessment process, and will focus on tailored growth innovation strategies for selected SMEs.
