A Region Under Pressure to Do More with Less

The evolving hospitality landscape is exerting pressure on operators to fill rooms and do more with less, while doing it better.

For many budget and boutique hotels, the front desk has inadvertently become a bottleneck. Rising manpower costs, increasing fraud risks, and shifting guest expectations are forcing operators to rethink one of the most fundamental touch points in hospitality, the check in experience itself.

It is within this context that Malaysia based hospitality solutions provider Vendfun Sdn Bhd is making its most decisive regional move yet.

With the appointment of PT Murni Solusindo Nusantara as its Exclusive Master Distributor for Indonesia, Vendfun is not just entering a new market. It is positioning itself at the heart of one of Southeast Asia’s largest and most dynamic hospitality ecosystems.

Indonesia as Opportunity and Urgency

Daryl Lau of Vendfun and Anton Ng of PT Murni Solusindo Nusantara during the agreement signing in Jakarta on 10 March 2026, as both companies partner to address growing demand in Indonesia’s hospitality market.

Indonesia presents a compelling paradox. It is home to the largest base of budget hotels in the region, driven by domestic travel, tourism growth, and a thriving ecosystem of boutique accommodations, hostels, and short term rental operators. At the same time, this very scale introduces operational challenges that are becoming increasingly difficult to manage manually.

Daryl Lau, Chief Strategy Officer of Vendfun, described Indonesia as a significant opportunity for the company, noting that it has the largest base of budget hotels in the region. Yet beyond opportunity lies urgency.

He explained, “In Indonesia, our kiosk solutions are driven by two critical hotelier pain points, which are spiraling manpower costs and rising front desk fraud. Additionally, as guest impersonation and credit card scams surge, traditional manual check ins remain highly vulnerable. With rising costs, we foresee that demand for automated solutions will become even stronger in Indonesia. We are thrilled to partner with PT Murni to help address these challenges.”

These challenges are not unique to Indonesia, but in a market of this scale, their impact is amplified. As a result, demand for automation is growing not as a luxury, but as a necessity.

Smart Kiosks Solutions for Check In Experience

Vendfun’s response to this shift lies in its Smart Mini Kiosk solutions, specifically the Mini S and Mini S Pro. Designed to be compact and practical, these kiosks automate the entire check in and check out process while transforming what the front desk represents. It moves from being a dependency to becoming an option.

Guests are able to complete identity verification, registration, and payment independently, supported by integrations with multiple Property Management Systems such as Yanolja, Cloudbeds, and Wincloud. For hotel operators, this translates into reduced reliance on manpower, lower operational costs, enhanced fraud prevention, and a smoother guest experience.

In essence, the check in process evolves from a manual transaction into a digitally enabled experience that aligns with the expectations of today’s travellers.

The Power of the Right Local Partner

Entering Indonesia, however, is not simply about having the right technology. It is about having the right partner to bring that technology to scale.

PT Murni Solusindo Nusantara plays that role. Headquartered in Jakarta, the company brings a strong nationwide footprint with seven offices and more than one hundred service centres across the country. It also offers the operational capabilities required to implement and support Vendfun’s solutions effectively.

Under the agreement, PT Murni will oversee Vendfun’s entire Indonesian market operations, including marketing, exhibitions, lead generation, sales closing, installation, and technical support. The company will also lead a reseller programme to expand Vendfun’s reach further into the market.

Anton Ng, Director of PT Murni, emphasised the significance of the collaboration, saying, “We are excited to bring Vendfun’s self check in kiosk solutions to the Indonesian market. The demand for automated hospitality solutions is real and growing, and Vendfun’s technology directly addresses the challenges that hotels face today. We look forward to working closely with Vendfun to make self service check in the new standard for budget and boutique hotels across Indonesia.”

What this partnership represents is more than distribution. It is localisation. By embedding Vendfun’s solutions within PT Murni’s established ecosystem, the technology becomes not only available, but accessible and scalable.

Automation as the New Hospitality Standard

Vendfun Mini Kiosk

Vendfun’s expansion into Indonesia is built on a strong foundation. The company has already deployed more than one hundred and fifty kiosks across twelve states in Malaysia, as well as in Singapore, Australia, and the United States. This track record provides both credibility and a clear blueprint for regional growth.

At its core, Vendfun’s expansion is anchored in a broader belief that self service technology will become a standard in hospitality operations. It is not about replacing human interaction, but about redefining where human value is best applied.

By automating routine processes such as check in and check out, hotels can redirect their resources towards more meaningful guest engagement and service delivery. In this way, automation enhances hospitality rather than diminishes it.

In markets like Indonesia, where cost pressures and operational risks continue to rise, this shift may not just be beneficial, but inevitable.

A Regional Strategy Taking Shape

The Indonesia partnership also reflects Vendfun’s wider regional ambitions. Daryl Lau described it as the company’s most significant expansion to date, while also highlighting that it forms part of a broader ASEAN strategy.

He shared, “Indonesia represents a very exciting opportunity for us as it has the largest base of budget hotels in the region. With PT Murni’s strong presence of seven offices and over one hundred service centres across the country and technical capabilities in the Indonesian market, we believe this partnership will accelerate the adoption of self service technology in the hospitality industry.”

Vendfun is already preparing for its next step, with its first installation in Thailand scheduled for April, and is actively seeking a strong local distributor in the country to support its continued expansion.

A Glimpse Into the Future of Hospitality

As Southeast Asia’s hospitality sector continues to evolve, expectations from both operators and guests are shifting. Speed, security, and efficiency are no longer differentiators, but basic expectations.

In this environment, the question is no longer whether hotels will adopt automation, but how quickly they can do so without compromising the quality of service.
