Sime Motors and BYD Malaysia have officially launched BYD Mansion Macalister, a new flagship electric vehicle showroom in George Town, Penang, marking another major step in expanding Malaysia’s growing EV ecosystem.
Located within a restored heritage property in the heart of the city, the new showroom blends Penang’s cultural heritage with modern electric mobility innovation, creating a premium automotive destination designed to elevate the EV ownership experience in the northern region.
The official launch ceremony was attended by Chow Kon Yeow and H’ng Mooi Lye, while also commemorating the milestone of more than 5,000 BYD owners in Northern Malaysia.
A Heritage Landmark Reimagined for Electric Mobility

Positioned as BYD’s northern flagship showroom, BYD Mansion Macalister has been designed to offer more than a conventional retail experience.
The facility integrates consultation lounges, personalised customer engagement spaces, digital touchpoints, a charging hub, and an integrated service centre under one roof. Visitors can explore BYD’s expanding electric vehicle lineup in an environment that combines contemporary automotive technology with Penang’s distinctive architectural heritage.
According to Liu Xueliang, the opening reflects BYD’s long-term commitment to Malaysia’s electric mobility future.
“BYD Mansion Macalister serves as a premier embodiment of this vision, seamlessly blending world-class innovation with a deep respect for local heritage,” he said.
The launch also highlights the increasing importance of experience-driven automotive retail spaces as EV adoption continues to grow across Malaysia.
Strengthening Malaysia’s EV Infrastructure and Customer Support
Beyond showroom expansion, Sime Motors and BYD Malaysia continue to focus heavily on aftersales support and customer confidence.
The companies currently operate more than 43 showrooms and over 25 dedicated aftersales centres nationwide, supported by continuous investments in EV technician training and customer service development.

According to Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Southeast Asia at Sime Motors, the company is focused on ensuring long-term customer trust through reliable support infrastructure and service readiness.
“Integrated showroom hubs like BYD Mansion Macalister offer consultation, care, and charging under one roof, ensuring we deliver a premium customer experience,” he said.
The company also stated that its aftersales operations currently maintain a 95 per cent parts fill rate, helping to ensure faster servicing support and smoother ownership experiences for EV customers nationwide.
Showcasing the Long-Distance Capability of EVs
In conjunction with the launch, BYD Sime Motors organised a media road trip from BYD Ara Damansara to BYD Mansion Macalister in Penang.
The 360-kilometre journey was designed to demonstrate the long-distance driving capability, comfort, and practicality of BYD electric vehicles across Malaysian highways and scenic travel routes.
The road trip also reflected the increasing confidence among Malaysian consumers towards EV adoption, particularly as charging accessibility, aftersales support, and vehicle range capabilities continue to improve nationwide.
Malaysia’s Growing Shift Towards Sustainable Mobility

The launch of BYD Mansion Macalister comes amid accelerating interest in electric vehicles across Malaysia, as consumers increasingly seek more sustainable and technology-driven mobility solutions.
As one of the world’s leading EV manufacturers, BYD continues to expand its presence globally through innovations in battery technology, electric mobility systems, and zero-emission transportation solutions.
For Sime Motors, the new Penang flagship represents part of a wider strategy to strengthen EV accessibility and premium ownership experiences across the country while supporting Malaysia’s broader transition towards cleaner transportation and sustainable mobility infrastructure.
