KUALA LUMPUR, 23 OCTOBER 2025 - Two Malaysian sellers share how Shopee’s innovative tools helped them expand their businesses and mentor others in the digital economy

As Shopee Malaysia marks its 10th anniversary, the e-commerce platform celebrates a decade of supporting local entrepreneurs and small businesses in building sustainable, borderless brands.

From its early beginnings as an online marketplace, Shopee has grown into a key enabler of digital entrepreneurship, helping thousands of Malaysians turn their business ideas into reality and reach customers beyond Malaysia’s borders.

To commemorate the milestone, Shopee shines a spotlight on two inspiring sellers — George Cheah and Kenneth Soon — whose entrepreneurial journeys demonstrate how Shopee’s programmes, such as Fulfilled by Shopee (FBS) and MY-SG Direct, empower small businesses to grow efficiently and give back to their communities.

Building Efficiency and Opportunity through Fulfilled by Shopee (FBS)

When George Cheah joined Shopee seven years ago, he was seeking stability and a way to create opportunities in Alor Setar, Kedah. Through the Fulfilled by Shopee (FBS) programme, George streamlined his operations and gained the freedom to scale without the usual logistical burden.

“It freed up my time and opened new revenue opportunities without the worry of warehousing or additional operational costs,” said George.

Since adopting FBS in February 2025, George’s store has recorded an additional 400 monthly orders while maintaining his existing workforce. His success has also created 20 new local jobs, reinforcing Shopee’s wider impact on Malaysia’s digital economy.

Beyond his own growth, George gives back by serving as a ShopeeXpert, mentoring other sellers on order management, promotions, and customer engagement. Over the past four years, he has trained more than 1,000 aspiring entrepreneurs, transforming his personal achievements into community development.

Expanding Beyond Borders with MY-SG Direct

For Kenneth Soon, founder of Idea Inovasi, Shopee’s MY-SG Direct programme provided the breakthrough he needed to reach international markets. His business, which offers health and beauty products, grew significantly after joining the programme just four months ago.

“It gave me confidence knowing Shopee manages the cross-border process, so I can focus on optimising my product selection and pricing strategy,” he said.

Since then, Kenneth’s store has gained over 100 monthly orders from Singapore, supported by a growing base of repeat customers who trust the quality and value of his products.

As an active member of the Bintang Komuniti, Kenneth also dedicates his time to helping other sellers thrive. Through mentoring on product photography, keyword optimisation, and pricing, he has guided peers towards achieving consistent cross-border sales — particularly through the MY-SG Direct initiative.

“It’s fulfilling to see how I’ve helped Malaysian businesses grow on their own terms and reach new customers in Singapore,” Kenneth added.

Shopee’s Decade of Impact

Over ten years, Shopee has evolved into one of Malaysia’s most influential digital platforms, empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt technology and tap into global markets.

Through initiatives like FBS and MY-SG Direct, Shopee enables entrepreneurs to streamline logistics, enhance customer service, and scale their business sustainably — driving growth in Malaysia’s digital economy while promoting inclusive entrepreneurship.

The journeys of George and Kenneth exemplify Shopee’s mission to create opportunities that extend beyond profit, fostering a network of sellers who support and uplift one another.
