Kuantan, 20 June 2025 – The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) is extending its investor education efforts to the east coast with Bersama InvestSmart®@Pahang 2025, a three-day event held at the East Coast Mall in Kuantan from 20 to 22 June.

Strengthening Public Awareness Through Community Engagement

As part of the SC’s flagship InvestSmart® initiative, the event aims to enhance investment knowledge and raise awareness about financial scams. The programme brings together government representatives, capital market players, and regulators under one roof to engage directly with the public.

The event was officiated by Dato’ Mohamad Nizar bin Dato’ Sri Mohamad Najib, Chairman of Investment, Industrial Development, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee for the State of Pahang.

Interactive Activities and Resources for Investors

With the theme ‘Bijak Labur Hidup Makmur’, more than 40 exhibitors are participating in the fair. Highlights include:

  • Public talks and panel discussions
  • A dedicated anti-scam zone serving as a one-stop centre for scam education
  • Over 100 free one-on-one financial planning sessions under the #FinPlan4u® initiative, offering personalised advice from licensed financial planners

Empowering Malaysians Against Scams

SC Chairman Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi emphasised the importance of direct community outreach to counter scams and misinformation.

“Financial empowerment starts with education – and that’s what InvestSmart® is all about,” he said during his welcoming speech.
“We want Malaysians to feel confident and equipped to make smart financial choices, especially in today’s rapidly evolving investment landscape. This includes being well-prepared for long-term goals such as retirement planning.”

“As scams become more sophisticated, the best defense is a well-informed public. Through InvestSmart®, we’re building a resilient generation of investors who are not only savvy but also scam-aware.”

Rising Number of Scam Complaints Sparks Urgency

Dato’ Mohammad Faiz noted a concerning rise in scam-related complaints. In 2024, the SC received 3,602 complaints and enquiries, reflecting a 10% increase over the previous year. By May 2025, 1,218 complaints and enquiries had already been lodged.

This growing trend underscores the urgent need for public vigilance when dealing with investment opportunities.

InvestSmart® Nationwide Impact

Since its inception in 2014, InvestSmart® has reached millions of Malaysians through educational fairs and community outreach. With scams proliferating — especially online — the initiative plays a crucial role in building an informed and scam-resistant investment community.

Bersama InvestSmart®@Pahang 2025 is the first of its kind in the state, following the success of previous editions in Johor, Penang, Sarawak, and Sabah.
