This approval enables Ria to offer a secure and compliant payroll solution tailored to Malaysia’s large migrant workforce, many of whom remain unbanked. The solution combines the Ria Payroll Management System, the Ria Wallet, and the Ria Prepaid Card Program—developed in collaboration with Mastercard—to improve wage distribution and promote financial inclusion across the country.
The Ria Wallet empowers users with access to essential financial services such as ATM withdrawals, bill payments, and domestic and international transfers. Users can also make QR code-based payments across millions of merchants via DuitNow. For employers, particularly in industries like construction, agriculture, and manufacturing, the system simplifies payroll management and enhances transparency and compliance.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), migrants make up approximately 15.3% of Malaysia’s total workforce. A significant portion of them lack access to traditional banking services—an issue the Ria Wallet aims to address.
Espen Kristensen, Managing Director for Ria Money Transfer in Asia Pacific, commented:
“We understand the challenges Malaysian employers face in managing wages for migrant workers. With the Ria Wallet, we’re offering a digital solution that not only streamlines payroll but also fosters financial inclusion and regulatory compliance.”

With operations in Malaysia since 2001 and a global footprint spanning 624,000 locations in nearly 200 countries and territories, Ria continues to lead in building accessible financial services for underserved communities.
The Ria Prepaid Card Program, developed in collaboration with Mastercard, reflects Ria’s commitment to empowering communities through technology and inclusive finance.
