HRH Crown Prince of Pahang’s representative officiates Eco Campus Malaysia and the Empowering Malaysia’s Green Future Masterplan 2025–2030, setting the stage for climate-smart campuses, sustainability-driven graduates, and nationwide climate action

Royal Launch of Eco Campus Malaysia

Her Highness Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Illisha Ameera, representing HRH Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, Crown Prince of Pahang, launched the Eco Campus Malaysia Programme at the Eco Campus International Conference (ECIC) 2025 in Kuala Lumpur. The event welcomed more than 100 participants from 48 countries. Over three days, they gathered at the International Youth Centre to exchange ideas and best practices.

A National Strategy for Climate-Smart Education

The ceremony also introduced the Empowering Malaysia’s Green Future Masterplan (EMGF) 2025–2030. This national plan is led by the Green Growth Asia Foundation (GGAF) in collaboration with the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
Importantly, the masterplan seeks to mainstream Green, Climate, and Environmental Education (GCEE) across Malaysia. It also aligns with the Greening Education Partnership (My GEP 2030) and the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4.7. Together, these frameworks will help integrate sustainability into education and empower future-ready graduates.

Ambitious Targets for 2030

By 2030, the EMGF sets out to achieve several bold goals:

  • Reach 1 million learners nationwide.
  • Transform 10,000 schools and teacher institutes.
  • Support 200,000 educators through large-scale training.
  • Avoid 25,000 tCO₂e emissions with eco-actions.
  • Deliver 240 nationwide campaigns to boost climate literacy.

Furthermore, the strategy rests on five pillars: curriculum integration, teacher training, digital platforms, youth leadership, and transparent reporting systems. These elements ensure progress is both measurable and impactful.raining, digital platforms, youth leadership, and robust reporting systems.

Recognition and Partnerships

The conference also celebrated achievements in higher education. Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) received the EcoCampus Green Flag, the top international award for sustainable campuses under FEE.
In addition, GGAF signed MoUs with UMPSA and the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle University Network (IMT-GT UNINET). These partnerships will expand research, enable data sharing, and create industry-recognised micro-credentials. As a result, students gain stronger pathways to employment.

Driving Real-World Change

The Eco Campus International Conference 2025 serves as a platform for universities to showcase living labs, green skills, and employability projects. It also allows institutions to learn from international peers. With support from royal patronage, the Ministry of Higher Education, and global partners, GGAF is turning climate commitments into tangible action.
