Held from 21 to 24 August, the Carnival marked a pivotal moment for the brand’s presence in Malaysia. “This Carnival is our way of saying thank you to our customers, welcoming new ones into the world of attainable luxury, and educating the wider public about the benefits of next-generation New Energy Vehicle (NEV) technology,” said Emily Lek, Vice-President of OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia.
The highlight? A dual model debut: the JAECOO J5, dubbed “Our Everyday Superstar,” and the OMODA C9 PHEV, a powerhouse plug-in hybrid SUV designed with “The Power to Lead”.
The JAECOO J5 – Bold, Compact, and Everyday Ready
Spearheading the showcase was the JAECOO J5, a stylish B-segment crossover designed to make luxury more accessible to first-time SUV buyers. Measuring 4,380 mm long and standing on 18-inch aluminium alloy wheels, the J5 balances urban practicality with a premium aesthetic.
Its 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivers 147 PS and 210 Nm of torque, paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) for smooth and responsive driving. Fuel efficiency comes in at 7.5 litres per 100 km (WLTC)—perfect for daily use.
Inside, the J5 boasts a serene yet expressive cabin. The pet-friendly, TÜV-certified interior features full faux leather upholstery and a class-leading 1.45㎡ panoramic moonroof, letting natural light flood in. The boot holds up to 480 litres, expandable to 1,180 litres.
Tech-wise, it’s a digital haven: a 13.2-inch 2K touchscreen, WiFi connectivity, an 8.0-inch instrument cluster, and 8-speaker audio system round out the user experience. Safety is top-tier too, with Level 2.5 ADAS and a 540-degree HD Surround View Camera System.
The OMODA C9 PHEV – Luxury and Power in One Electrified Beast
Making its first public appearance was the OMODA C9 PHEV, the brand’s most powerful model yet. A plug-in hybrid SUV coupé, the C9 combines a 1.5-litre turbo engine with three electric motors, delivering a potential 605 PS and 915 Nm of torque—and blasting from 0–100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
Its 34.46 kWh LFP battery supports a 150 km pure EV range, with an impressive total range of around 1,100 km. Multiple charging modes—70 kW DC fast charging, 6.6 kW and 2.8 kW AC charging—ensure flexibility for various lifestyles.
With a 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) and CDC active suspension system that responds up to 100 times per second, the C9 offers power and ride comfort across seven drive modes. Inside, luxury abounds: heated and ventilated seats, auxiliary lighting, and seamless tech integrations enhance every journey.
SHS Experience Lab – Tech, Up Close
Central to the event was the Super Hybrid System (SHS) Experience Lab. Through interactive displays and live demos, guests experienced how OMODA | JAECOO’s hybrid system adapts intelligently to real-world driving, optimising performance while cutting emissions.
Beyond Cars – A Lifestyle Showcase
It wasn’t all horsepower and torque. The Carnival catered to families, foodies, and trendsetters alike. From curated test drives of the OMODA J7 and JAECOO J8, to children’s play zones and the PingMing Market—a cultural bazaar filled with artisanal and culinary treats.
