The new BMW F 450 GS Trophy combines lightweight adventure touring performance, innovative Easy Ride Clutch technology and advanced rider assistance systems, offering Malaysian riders a versatile motorcycle built for both urban commuting and off-road exploration.

BMW Motorrad Malaysia has officially launched the new BMW F 450 GS, introducing a lighter and more agile interpretation of the iconic GS adventure motorcycle while retaining the capability, versatility and engineering sophistication that have defined the model family for decades.

First unveiled as a concept at the EICMA international motorcycle exhibition in 2024, the production-ready F 450 GS arrives as a purpose-built adventure motorcycle aimed at riders seeking everyday usability, touring comfort and genuine off-road capability without the size and complexity typically associated with larger-displacement adventure machines.

According to Benjamin Nagel, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, the new model extends the GS philosophy to a wider audience of riders.

“The GS legacy has always been about freedom — the freedom to explore, to adapt, and to push boundaries wherever the road or trail may lead. With the New BMW F 450 GS, we are bringing that same philosophy to a broader audience of riders in Malaysia,” he said.

Purpose-Built Adventure Engineering

Rather than serving as a scaled-down version of its larger siblings, the F 450 GS has been engineered from the ground up to deliver a balanced adventure riding experience.

The motorcycle adopts BMW Motorrad’s latest GS design language, incorporating signature styling elements such as the distinctive front “beak”, a pronounced flyline running from the front fairing to the rear section, and a modern LED headlight featuring the brand’s recognisable X-shaped daytime running light signature.

BMW Motorrad has paid particular attention to rider ergonomics. The motorcycle features high-mounted aluminium handlebars positioned close to the rider, while the 14-litre fuel tank and bodywork have been designed to provide optimal support whether seated on the road or standing during off-road riding.

The standard equipment list includes hand guards, a two-piece seat, a tinted Rallye windscreen, adjustable foot controls and off-road foot pegs designed to provide grip across varying terrain conditions.

New Twin-Cylinder Engine Delivers Performance and Efficiency

Powering the F 450 GS is an all-new liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine mounted transversely within the chassis.

The powerplant produces 35kW (48hp) at 8,750rpm and 43Nm of torque at 6,750rpm, enabling the motorcycle to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 165km/h.

Despite its performance credentials, BMW Motorrad reports fuel consumption of just 3.8 litres per 100 kilometres.

To improve refinement, engineers incorporated a counterbalance shaft positioned ahead of the crankshaft to minimise unwanted vibration. Meanwhile, a wet-sump lubrication system with a chain-driven oil pump ensures reliable lubrication under all operating conditions.

Easy Ride Clutch Introduces New Riding Experience

Among the most significant innovations on the F 450 GS is BMW Motorrad’s Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), available as standard on the F 450 GS Trophy variant offered in Malaysia.

The system utilises an advanced centrifugal clutch mechanism that automatically manages clutch engagement and disengagement based on engine speed.

Unlike conventional automatic clutch systems, the ERC remains engaged during deceleration, preserving natural engine braking characteristics and delivering riding behaviour that closely mirrors a traditional manual clutch setup.

The result is smoother operation in heavy traffic, tight corners and technical off-road environments while significantly reducing rider fatigue and eliminating the risk of stalling.

Importantly, riders can still manually operate the clutch lever whenever required, allowing greater control in specialised riding situations such as obstacle crossings or slippery descents.

Shift Assistant Pro Enhances Riding Dynamics

Complementing the Easy Ride Clutch is BMW Motorrad’s Shift Assistant Pro.

The redesigned six-speed transmission allows riders to perform clutchless upshifts and downshifts, reducing interruptions to power delivery while improving overall riding comfort.

BMW says the system also minimises unwanted load changes and rear-wheel disturbances, resulting in smoother gear transitions and greater stability.

Chassis Designed for Road and Trail

The F 450 GS utilises a steel frame engineered to combine low weight with durability.

BMW Motorrad deliberately selected steel rather than aluminium due to its robustness in demanding off-road conditions.

The motorcycle features a wheelbase of 1,465mm, a steering head angle of 28.1 degrees and 115mm of trail. Together, these dimensions deliver a combination of agility, steering precision and high-speed stability.

Suspension duties are handled by 43mm upside-down front forks offering 180mm of travel and adjustable rebound and compression damping. At the rear, a lightweight cast aluminium double-sided swingarm works with a centrally mounted shock absorber featuring adjustable spring preload and rebound damping, also delivering 180mm of travel.

Brembo Braking and Adventure-Ready Wheels

The F 450 GS rides on cast aluminium wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear.

Tyres measure 100/90-19 at the front and 130/80-17 at the rear, providing a balance between on-road performance and off-road capability.

Braking performance comes from a Brembo four-piston fixed front caliper paired with a 310mm floating brake disc, while a single-piston rear caliper operates a 240mm rear disc.

Advanced Rider Assistance Systems

BMW Motorrad has equipped the F 450 GS Trophy with a comprehensive suite of electronic rider aids.

Standard features include:

  • ABS Pro
  • Dynamic Brake Control (DBC)
  • Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)
  • Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR)

The motorcycle also benefits from Riding Modes Pro, offering four selectable riding modes: “Rain”, “Road”, “Enduro” and “Enduro Pro”.

Designed specifically for more demanding off-road conditions, “Enduro Pro” disables rear-wheel ABS and wheelie control while allowing riders to customise traction control, ABS intervention and throttle response.

Connectivity and Digital Features

A 6.5-inch TFT display comes standard and serves as the motorcycle’s digital command centre.

Designed for maximum readability in varying lighting conditions, the display integrates with BMW Motorrad’s multi-controller system for intuitive operation.

The Trophy specification further adds a dedicated Sport Screen displaying detailed performance information including lean angle, braking force and traction control data.

A USB-C charging port is also included for added convenience during longer journeys.

Malaysian Availability

BMW Motorrad Malaysia is offering the motorcycle exclusively in F 450 GS Trophy specification finished in GS Trophy Racing Blue Metallic.

The estimated retail price for the new BMW F 450 GS Trophy is RM40,000.

With its combination of lightweight adventure capability, advanced electronics, innovative Easy Ride Clutch technology and genuine GS DNA, the F 450 GS represents BMW Motorrad’s latest effort to make adventure motorcycling more accessible without compromising the engineering, versatility and riding enjoyment that have made the GS family one of the most successful adventure motorcycle line-ups in the world.
