The event was graced by the Guest of Honour, YB Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government II. Baker Tilly Malaysia partners, clients from across Sarawak, and invited guests were in attendance to witness this significant milestone.
Government and Capital Market Leaders Commend the Milestone
YB Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee praised the integration, stating,
“I am pleased to see Sarawak’s local accounting and advisory firms stepping forward to become part of an international professional network like Baker Tilly Malaysia. This move reflects the growing confidence and capability of our homegrown firms to meet the evolving demands of the business community—not just in Sarawak, but across Malaysia and beyond.”
“It also signifies the expanding opportunities for business and professional services in our state, as Sarawak continues to attract greater economic activity and investment. That is why I am especially pleased that Baker Tilly, together with Bursa Malaysia, have brought their ‘Roadmap to IPO’ event to Sibu today—a timely initiative that will empower local businesses to explore new avenues for growth and capital raising.” He added.
In his keynote address, Leong See Meng, Director of Origination & Listing at Bursa Malaysia emphasised, “ As thenational exchange, Bursa Malaysia plays a key role in enabling businesses of all sizes and maturity to access the capital market for fundraising and growth. In line with this commitment, we continue to collaborate with ecosystem partners on initiatives like the ‘Roadmap to IPO’ across different states. We look forward to engaging further with businesses in Sarawak and supporting them on their journey to IPO.
A Stronger Platform for East Malaysian Businesses
Philip Tong, Managing Partner of Baker Tilly Sarawak, noted that the integration marks a major milestone in the firm’s growth journey. He shared that aligning with an established national and international network gives Sarawakian firms access to wider resources, technical knowledge, and professional development opportunities. This, he said, will help uplift service standards for SMEs in the region and support Sarawak’s broader economic progress.
A United Vision for Growth in East Malaysia
Andrew Heng, Group Managing Partner of Baker Tilly Malaysia and Chair of Baker Tilly APAC, expressed his confidence in the Sarawak team, highlighting their deep local roots and strong track record. He emphasized that their addition will significantly enhance Baker Tilly’s ability to deliver consistent, high-quality services across East Malaysia, and sees them as a key part of the firm’s strategy to deepen its impact in the region.
