Penang , 26 October 2025 – Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad celebrated the successful conclusion of its third edition of the Heritage Run 2025, in Penang drawing a huge turnout of 5,500 participants – surpassing last year’s numbers hitting a record, and underscoring the event’s growing popularity.
This year’s Run also introduced a 21-kilometre half marathon category, offering seasoned runners a new challenge.
Endorsed by the Penang State EXCO Office for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE), the Heritage Run promotes Penang as a vibrant hub for sports tourism while celebrating the city’s living heritage, fostering community wellness, and advancing sustainable practices.
The run also underscored the Bank’s efforts in supporting George Town’s cultural heritage, which is in line with United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals number 11.4.
Set against the timeless backdrop of George Town’s UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Run featured four categories – the new 21-kilometre half marathon, a competitive 12-kilometre race, a 7-kilometre run, and a 3-kilometre family walk designed to encourage participation from all age groups and foster a sense of community.
Participants not only experienced Penang’s iconic cultural landmarks and heritage streets but also contributed to a shared celebration of health, unity, and environmental responsibility.
In the men’s 21-kilometre category, David Kibet took first place, followed by Ow Yong Jin Kuang and Yeow Ni Jia. The Women’s category was led by Ong Ee Ling, with Wong Mi-Chi and Yee Pei Ni placing second and third. Winners received finisher medals and cash prizes. For the Men’s 12-kilometre category, Joshua Loh Yixun emerged as champion, followed by Mohd Faizul Bin Muhaieddin and Muhammad Haziq Danish. In the Women’s category, first place went to Alicia Toh Chia Yin, with Lim Pei Ting and Jacklyn Sabastian in second and third positions. The Heritage Run is more than a race – it was a celebration of community and culture,” he added.
Participants enjoyed the #SupportLokal Bazaar, where Penang’s homegrown entrepreneurs showcased artisanal crafts, eco-friendly products, and local delicacies, boosting grassroots economic activity. Iconic Penang trishaws offered complimentary rides through the historic streets, while an interactive large art initiative allowed runners to contribute to a collaborative mural, blending fitness with creativity.
Sustainability continued to be the heart of the Heritage Run.
Race essentials were designed to minimize environmental impact, featuring lanyards made from recycled plastic, medals from sustainably sourced bamboo, and exclusive T-shirts crafted from recycled polyester. All items were packed in reusable canvas bags, reinforcing waste reduction and giving materials a second life. By weaving sustainability into every aspect of the event, the Bank demonstrated its ESG commitment – protecting the environment, supporting local economies, and promoting community well-being.
