MTF acknowledged and appreciated the proactive measures taken by the Royal Malaysia Police, including the deployment of 380 traffic officers and personnel working around the clock to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety.
However, while traffic projections are important for public preparedness, MTF urged that such announcements be framed carefully to avoid creating unnecessary concern among tourists. Headlines emphasising “huge numbers of vehicles” without a balanced context may unintentionally discourage visitors from travelling to the destination.
In reality, increased vehicle movement during festive seasons reflects strong travel demand, vibrant domestic tourism, and positive economic activity. This should be communicated as a sign that Pulau Pinang remains a popular and thriving destination.
MTF encouraged all stakeholders to complement such announcements with:
- Clear travel advisories and recommended travel times to avoid peak congestion;
- Alternative routes and transport options;
- Assurance that authorities are fully prepared to manage traffic flow;
- Positive messaging that destinations are ready and excited to welcome visitors.
Constructive guidance builds confidence. Responsible and reassuring communication protects not only visitor sentiment but also the livelihoods of tourism operators, small businesses, including hotels, spas, theme parks and local communities.
Pulau Pinang remained one of Malaysia’s premier tourism destinations, and with proper planning and coordination, the festive season could be both vibrant and well-managed.
MTF also advised tourists not to be overly wary of the expected traffic volume during the festive period, as such movement reflects a vibrant and active holiday season. However, travellers were strongly encouraged to exercise extra caution in the accident-prone locations identified by the police, adhere strictly to traffic regulations, and plan their journeys wisely.
MTF remained committed to working with authorities and media partners to ensure that Malaysia continues to project a welcoming, well-prepared, and travel-friendly image.
The federation remained committed to ensuring Malaysia continues to project a welcoming, well-prepared, and travel-friendly image.
