The Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation (Bioeconomy Corporation) has announced that its flagship innovation platform, BioXCeed 2025, successfully generated over RM800 million in potential investments and commercial opportunities within Malaysia’s rapidly growing bio-based industry.
Held in collaboration with the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC), BioXCeed 2025 took place alongside the National Innovation and Commercialisation Expo (NICE 2025), marking a major milestone in advancing Malaysia’s bioeconomy ecosystem.
Accelerating Malaysia’s Bioeconomy Ecosystem
The event saw the exchange of five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and the launch of six bio-based products by five Bio-based Accelerator (BBA) companies, underscoring Malaysia’s growing maturity and competitiveness in biotechnology and bio-based innovation.
Bioeconomy Corporation Chief Executive Officer Mohd Khairul Fidzal Abdul Razak highlighted that the achievements represent not only economic value but also the collective impact of initiatives driving innovation, commercialisation, and sustainable growth across the country’s bio-based industries.
He reaffirmed the Corporation’s commitment to amplifying Malaysia’s bioeconomy voice nationally and internationally, with continued support from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and its agencies, including MTDC.
Forging Global Partnerships for Green Innovation
Among the key highlights of BioXCeed 2025 was a series of international collaborations aimed at advancing sustainable technologies and strengthening Malaysia’s leadership in green innovation.
A notable partnership was formalised between Bioeconomy Corporation and Emulsion Flow Technologies Ltd. of Japan, focusing on enhancing palm oil mill effluent (POME) treatment and waste oil recovery through advanced Emulsion Flow Technology. The initiative, estimated at RM30 million over five years, was witnessed by YB Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Another landmark agreement was signed between Bioeconomy Corporation and Polaris Bio Co., Ltd. of South Korea, to develop POME-based biogas upgrading facilities in Malaysia with total investments of RM700 million. The MoU was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Yusof.
During the same event, Bioeconomy Corporation supported a joint venture between Xeraya Capital and Mirxes International Holding Limited to establish MyRNA Diagnostics, a company specialising in RNA-based diagnostic solutions. The venture aims to strengthen Malaysia’s healthcare biotechnology ecosystem and is projected to generate RM42.1 million in revenue within three years.
Supporting Local Bio-Based Innovation
BioXCeed 2025 also facilitated partnerships between Absolute Genetic Technologies Sdn Bhd and Grusonn Wellness Sdn Bhd for the joint marketing of DNA test products and mushroom-based supplements, as well as a collaboration between Absolute Genetic Technologies Sdn Bhd and Asian Primal Synergy Sdn Bhd for the exclusive distribution of DNA testing services in Myanmar.
These collaborations reflect the platform’s role as a catalyst for cross-border commercialisation and regional market access for Malaysian bio-based innovators.
Showcasing Six Groundbreaking Bio-Based Products
Five Bio-based Accelerator companies launched six innovative products at the event, with a combined targeted sales value of RM184.5 million over the next three years. The launches showcased Malaysia’s capacity to deliver high-value, science-driven products with both domestic and international market potential.
The products included:
- An early detection blood test for over 110 types of cancer.
- A probiotic-based organic biofertiliser for soil restoration.
- A virgin coconut oil-based multivitamin for livestock, to be marketed in Kazakhstan in March 2026.
- A botanical coffee enriched with Misai Kucing extract for diabetic patients.
- A Misai Kucing-based skincare range for sensitive and diabetic skin.
- A postbiotic natural fermentation extract that supports gut, metabolic, and immune health.
Advancing a Sustainable and Innovative Bioeconomy
BioXCeed 2025 marks another significant step forward in Malaysia’s efforts to position itself as a regional leader in biotechnology and bio-based innovation. The event demonstrates the strength of the country’s bioeconomy ecosystem in attracting international partnerships, supporting local innovators, and driving sustainable economic growth.
