Cross-border MoUs boost Malaysia’s role as a leading digital hub in Southeast Asia

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced that its flagship event, DEX CONNEX 2025, has secured more than RM1 billion in digital export opportunities, further positioning Malaysia as a regional leader in the digital economy.

The programme, part of MDEC’s Gateway, Amplify, Invest and Nurture (GAIN) initiative, connected 217 Malaysian technology companies with businesses in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. In total, 55 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Agreements (MoAs) were signed with 219 partners, covering high-impact sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud services, cybersecurity, fintech, agritech, and smart city solutions.

Highlights by Market

Indonesia:

26 MoUs exchanged, benefiting 83 Malaysian firms in AI, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure.

Philippines:

49 Malaysian companies collaborated with 43 Filipino partners, including a landmark agreement with Data Centre Incorporated.

Thailand:

52 partnerships and 11 MoUs signed, highlighted by the renewal of MDEC’s MoU with Thailand’s Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Vietnam (Series Finale):

Series finale gathered 33 Malaysian companies and 45 Vietnamese partners, resulting in four key MoUs covering telecom, biotech, and community solutions.

Since its inception in 2017, the DEX CONNEX series has generated RM47.13 billion in revenue and RM15.4 billion in exports. The 2025 results support the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint, which targets a 25.5% GDP contribution from the digital economy by 2030.
