KUALA LUMPUR, 17 July 2025 – As Chair of ASEAN for 2025, Malaysia successfully hosted the ASEAN Online Sales Day (AOSD) 2025 Webinar, bringing together policymakers, business leaders, and digital trade experts across Southeast Asia. Held on 16 July 2025, the event marked a significant step forward in promoting cross-border e-commerce, regional digital integration, and inclusive economic growth.

Advancing ASEAN’s Digital Economy

Organised in line with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship theme, “ASEAN: A Catalyst for Regional Growth and Digital Transformation,” the webinar drew participation from ASEAN Member States including Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. The initiative provided a timely platform for exchanging knowledge, exploring market opportunities, and fostering digital connectivity across borders.

Officiating the event was Mr. Mansor Shah Wahid, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), who reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to a digitally integrated ASEAN. He emphasised the transformative potential of e-commerce in empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), enhancing regional trade links, and building ASEAN’s long-term economic resilience.

Led by MITI and Coordinated by MATRADE

The AOSD 2025 initiative is spearheaded by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and coordinated by MATRADE, Malaysia’s national trade promotion agency. Together, they are driving efforts to scale regional e-commerce collaboration, build business capabilities, and support MSMEs in both domestic and cross-border digital trade.

Unlocking a USD 300 Billion Opportunity

Participants were offered valuable insights into the region’s fast-growing digital economy, which is projected to surpass USD 300 billion by the end of 2025. Emerging sectors of opportunity highlighted during the webinar included:

  • Halal products
  • Food and beverage
  • Fashion and apparel
  • Consumer electronics and technology
  • Other high-demand consumer goods

Speakers also discussed strategies for MSMEs to increase online visibility, expand into regional markets, and strengthen supply chain resilience in the face of ongoing global uncertainties.

Support from Leading E-Commerce and Logistics Partners

The event featured strong industry participation, with Alibaba.com, TikTok Shop Malaysia, DHL Express, Shopee, and other notable digital ecosystem players sharing their perspectives on enhancing e-commerce operations. Discussions focused on enabling seamless cross-border transactions, optimising logistics infrastructure, and developing inclusive digital payment systems.

These expert contributions underscored the importance of ecosystem partnerships in helping ASEAN businesses—particularly MSMEs—scale up and stay competitive in a digitally driven marketplace.

Gearing Up for the ASEAN Online Sales Campaign

Looking ahead, MATRADE announced the upcoming ASEAN Online Sales Day 2025 sales campaign, set to take place from 8 to 10 August 2025. The campaign aims to provide a practical next step for MSMEs to apply the insights gained from the webinar and deepen their engagement in regional e-commerce.

Businesses, online marketplaces, logistics providers, payment gateways, and digital enablers are strongly encouraged to participate in the campaign to boost brand visibility, reach new customer segments, and showcase Malaysian and ASEAN-made products to a wider audience.
