A Landmark Event for Southeast Asia
Taking place from 17 to 19 September 2025, SCEKL25 carries the theme “AI Cities: Shaping Our Digital Future”, reflecting Malaysia’s bold vision to build intelligent, inclusive, and sustainable cities powered by cutting-edge technologies. Co-organised by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) for the Ministry of Digital, the Expo will bring together global leaders, investors, tech innovators, and policymakers.
Anchored by four strategic pillars — AI Cities, Sustainable and Resilient Cities, Digital Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, and Community Empowerment through Digital Solutions — the Expo aligns with Malaysia’s goal to become a Smart Nation by 2040, as outlined in the Fourth National Physical Plan (NPP4).
Malaysia’s Commitment to Regional Digital Leadership
“SCEKL25 represents a bold step forward in Malaysia’s ambition to become a leading regional digital hub,” said Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital. “Thanks to MDEC’s Malaysia Digital initiative, we’ve welcomed 140 local AI solution providers generating over RM1 billion in revenue.”

Strong Growth in Digital Investments and Exports
“In 2024 alone, we recorded RM163.6 billion in digital investments — more than triple the previous year — and expanded digital exports to over 11 countries. This reflects investor confidence in our stable digital ecosystem.”
The Minister also noted the role of infrastructure: “With DNB’s 5G network now covering over 82% of populated areas, we’re enabling real-time, AI-powered applications — from traffic and public safety to environmental monitoring.”
Advancing ASEAN’s Digital Future
Positioning SCEKL25 as a regional platform, he continued: “We’re actively advancing the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) to unlock USD2 trillion in digital potential by 2030, through greater cross-border investment, market access, and harmonised digital regulations.”
Anuar Fariz Fadzil, CEO of MDEC, said:
“This initiative reflects our nation’s commitment to leading the region in building intelligent, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable cities powered by AI — where technology empowers people and drives the next wave of urban transformation.”
Datuk Azman Ismail, CEO of DNB, added:
“DNB is proud to play a pivotal role in powering Malaysia’s smart and AI-driven city ambitions through our nationwide 5G infrastructure.”
Catalysing Regional Partnerships and Investment
With Malaysia assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, SCEKL25 supports the ASEAN Master Plan on Connectivity 2025 by strengthening regional linkages and digital cooperation. The Expo is set to attract over 2,000 delegates and 10,000 visitors, catalysing trade, investment, and cross-border collaboration.
SCEKL25 also unveiled key partners including Diamond Partners Dell Technologies and Intel, Official Innovation Partner Huawei, and Gold Partner Ericsson. Strategic support from MIGHT, MSCA, Smart Cities Network, and the Malaysia PropTech Association reflects strong industry alignment behind the smart city movement.
