Volvo Car Malaysia has officially launched the evolved Volvo EX90, a fully electric seven-seater flagship SUV designed to bring together premium Scandinavian design, advanced safety technology and high-performance electric mobility.
Assembled locally in Shah Alam, the evolved EX90 is available for viewing at authorised Volvo dealers nationwide from 8 September 2026.
The electric SUV is priced from RM428,888 without insurance, with an exclusive early-bird package for the first 100 units booked comprising an RM25,000 cash rebate and a Volvo Wallbox worth RM3,990.
The updated EX90 introduces an upgraded 800-volt electric architecture, a more powerful computing platform and new advanced features as Volvo continues to develop its software-defined vehicle technology.
A Flagship Built Around Safety
Volvo continues to position safety at the centre of the EX90, describing the model as its safest car yet while emphasising its ability to evolve through future software and technology updates.
The SUV is equipped with Safe Space Technology, a suite of active safety systems designed to help create a safer environment inside and around the vehicle.
Its sensor setup combines radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors to provide a real-time view of the vehicle’s surroundings.
Inside the cabin, two infrared sensors form part of the Driver Understanding System, which is designed to detect signs of distraction and impairment. Combined with external sensor information, the system can assess the driver’s state and intervene when necessary.
Interior radars also form part of an Occupant Sensing System, capable of detecting extremely small movements, including breathing, to help ensure that no occupant is inadvertently left behind.
The evolved EX90 is further equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, including the next-generation Pilot Assist and Park Pilot Assist, alongside Volvo’s existing safety and collision-avoidance functions.
800V System Delivers Faster Charging
The evolved EX90’s new 800V architecture is designed specifically for the demands of electric mobility.
Combined with a Twin Motor All-wheel Drive powertrain, the SUV produces 680 hp and 870 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.
The 800V system is also designed to reduce weight and heat generation during charging, while requiring less copper. At the same time, it enables greater power delivery for faster acceleration.
Power comes from a 106-kWh battery, providing an electric driving range of up to 617 km under WLTP testing conditions. Volvo’s current Malaysia specifications list the same 617 km range and 800V electrical system.
The EX90 supports up to 350kW DC fast charging, with a 10 to 80 per cent charge taking around 22 minutes under the specified charging conditions.
The result is an electric flagship SUV combining high performance and long-distance capability with faster charging, while retaining the quiet cabin experience associated with Volvo’s premium electric vehicles.
NVIDIA Computing and Over-the-Air Updates
The evolved EX90 also strengthens Volvo’s approach to software-defined vehicles.
The SUV is powered by an NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin-based core computer, providing the computing capacity required to manage functions including active safety systems, vehicle sensors and battery management.
Volvo’s Superset technology stack sits across the vehicle’s hardware and software modules, enabling more frequent and efficient over-the-air software updates.
These updates can introduce new features and improvements across areas such as infotainment, battery management, safety and driving performance, allowing the EX90 to continue evolving after purchase.
The SUV also features an infotainment system with built-in Google Services, including Google Assistant, Google Maps and access to applications through Google Play.
A Bowers & Wilkins High-Fidelity Audio System complements the cabin, while information is presented through a 9-inch driver display, 14.5-inch centre display and head-up display.
Scandinavian Design Meets Quiet Luxury
The evolved EX90 retains Volvo’s distinctive Scandinavian design approach, with a flush exterior intended to balance aesthetics and aerodynamic efficiency.
Flush glazing and rounded front and rear sections contribute to a streamlined shape designed to improve airflow, performance and electric range.
Inside, the focus remains on comfort and wellbeing.
An electrochromic roof allows occupants to adjust the amount of natural light entering the cabin and manage cabin temperature at the touch of a button. Ventilated Nappa leather upholstery is paired with natural wood elements to create a premium interior environment.
Two interior combinations are available: Charcoal Nappa leather with Light Ash decor and Cardamom Nappa leather with Brown Ash.
The EX90 can be specified in five exterior colours: Onyx Black, Sand Dune, Crystal White, Vapour Grey and Mulberry Red.

Volvo Car Malaysia’s current specifications also list the EX90 with a 500kW/680 hp output, 870 Nm of torque and 4.2-second 0–100 km/h acceleration.
Volvo ES90 Receives 2027 Updates
Alongside the EX90 launch, Volvo Car Malaysia announced updates for its fully electric ES90 saloon for model year 2027.
The updated ES90 introduces two new exterior colours, Mulberry and Aurora Silver, as well as a premium Cardamom interior option and new 21-inch wheels with a Glossy-Silver finish.
The model will also gain wireless Android Auto compatibility.
Early bookings for the updated ES90 are eligible for cash rebates of up to RM17,600, with bookings opening from September 2026.
With the evolved EX90 and updated ES90, Volvo Car Malaysia is continuing to expand its fully electric vehicle offering while combining electrification with advanced safety, connected technology and Scandinavian design.
