U Mobile emerged as Malaysia’s Best Mobile Network and Best 5G Network during the first half of 2026, according to the latest Speedtest Connectivity Report.
Based on Speedtest Intelligence data collected between January and June 2026, U Mobile recorded a median mobile download speed of 202.61 Mbps and a median 5G download speed of 348.73 Mbps.
The telco also achieved a Speedtest Connectivity Score of 80.35 and a 5G Connectivity Score of 79.43, placing it at the top of the overall mobile network performance rankings in Malaysia.
The report draws on millions of daily consumer-initiated tests conducted through Speedtest, alongside quality-of-experience (QoE) metrics designed to provide a broader picture of how networks perform during everyday connected activities.
Connectivity Scores Look Beyond Download Speeds
The Speedtest Connectivity Score is designed to measure the overall mobile network experience rather than relying solely on download speeds.
The score combines Speed Score with measures of web browsing and video streaming performance, providing an indication of how effectively a mobile network supports common online activities.
U Mobile’s performance saw it recognised across several major categories, including Best Mobile Network, Best 5G Network, Fastest Mobile Network and Fastest 5G Network.
The operator recorded a median 5G download speed of 348.73 Mbps, ahead of Unifi Mobile’s 252.02 Mbps. U Mobile also recorded a median 5G upload speed of 34.38 Mbps and 5G latency of 31 milliseconds.
Other providers also performed strongly in specific areas. Unifi Mobile was named Malaysia’s Best Mobile Video Experience provider and Top Rated mobile provider, while Yes received the Best 5G Video Experience award.
Ipoh Emerges as Malaysia’s Fastest Major City
Beyond individual network providers, the report also highlights significant differences in mobile internet performance across Malaysian cities.
Ipoh recorded the fastest median mobile download speed among Malaysia’s most populous cities at 184.85 Mbps, narrowly ahead of Kuching at 183.83 Mbps and Kota Kinabalu at 177.47 Mbps.
Kajang ranked fourth at 158.65 Mbps, followed by Puchong at 145.66 Mbps.
Johor Bahru recorded a median download speed of 135.37 Mbps, while Subang Jaya and Shah Alam recorded 128.18 Mbps and 126.94 Mbps respectively.
Kuala Lumpur recorded a median mobile download speed of 126.50 Mbps, while Petaling Jaya ranked last among the cities measured at 124.64 Mbps.
U Mobile was identified as the fastest provider in all 10 of the cities included in the report.

Putrajaya Tops Regional Mobile Speeds
At the regional level, Putrajaya recorded Malaysia’s fastest median mobile download speed at 224.46 Mbps.
Labuan Federal Territory ranked second at 149.10 Mbps, followed by Selangor at 136.57 Mbps and Penang at 134.66 Mbps.
Sarawak recorded 131.70 Mbps, while Perak and Terengganu recorded 130.67 Mbps and 129.06 Mbps respectively.
Kuala Lumpur came in at 126.50 Mbps, followed by Sabah at 125.96 Mbps, Negeri Sembilan at 125.31 Mbps and Perlis at 125.06 Mbps.
At the lower end of the regional rankings, Malacca recorded 121.29 Mbps, Johor 120.67 Mbps, Kedah 116.82 Mbps and Pahang 113.33 Mbps.
Kelantan recorded the lowest median regional mobile download speed at 103.30 Mbps.
U Mobile was identified as the fastest mobile provider across every Malaysian region included in the report.

A Snapshot of Malaysia’s Changing 5G Landscape
The findings provide a snapshot of Malaysia’s mobile connectivity landscape during a significant period of development for the country’s 5G infrastructure.
Importantly, the Speedtest data covers January to June 2026. U Mobile completed the migration of its customers away from Digital Nasional Berhad’s (DNB) 5G network at the end of June, meaning the report captures a period in which the operator was still transitioning towards its own nationwide 5G infrastructure.
The second half of 2026 could therefore provide a different picture as Malaysia’s dual 5G network environment develops further.
For the first half of the year, however, the Speedtest Connectivity Report places U Mobile at the forefront of Malaysia’s mobile network performance, while highlighting substantial differences in mobile speeds between cities and regions across the country.
