PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA, 19 AUGUST 2026 - MATRADE-led Export Acceleration Mission connects Malaysian exporters with Cambodian buyers and explores opportunities across F&B, FMCG, halal, automotive and lifestyle sectors.

The Malaysia–Cambodia Business Seminar & B2B Meetings, held in conjunction with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE)’s Export Acceleration Mission (EAM) to Cambodia, is targeting RM100 million in potential trade as Malaysia seeks to strengthen bilateral trade and expand export opportunities in one of ASEAN’s fastest-growing economies.

The business seminar brought together more than 120 government officials, trade agencies, business leaders, importers and exporters from Malaysia and Cambodia, providing Malaysian companies with opportunities to build strategic partnerships and explore new commercial opportunities in the Cambodian market.

Speaking at the seminar, MATRADE Chairman YB Dato’ Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said Cambodia continues to offer strong growth opportunities for Malaysian exporters, supported by its expanding economy, industrial development and rising consumer demand.

He said initiatives such as the Export Acceleration Mission are intended to help Malaysian businesses establish strategic partnerships, gain market insights and expand their presence in Cambodia.

Bilateral trade grows 51.1 per cent

The seminar comes as trade between Malaysia and Cambodia continues to strengthen.

Bilateral trade expanded by 51.1 per cent to RM3.32 billion (US$0.83 billion) in the first half of 2026, while Malaysia’s exports to Cambodia increased by 40.9 per cent to RM2.45 billion (US$0.62 billion) during the same period.

“Cambodia offers significant opportunities for Malaysian exporters across a wide range of sectors. Through initiatives such as this business seminar and structured business matching sessions, MATRADE is connecting Malaysian companies with credible business partners, providing valuable market intelligence and creating pathways for sustainable commercial partnerships,” said YB Dato’ Seri Reezal Merican. “With a target of RM100 million in potential trade for this mission, we are confident that Malaysian companies are well-positioned to expand their presence in Cambodia while contributing to stronger intra-ASEAN trade,” he added.

He also highlighted the importance of strengthening regional economic integration through the spirit of “Samaki”, the Khmer word for unity and togetherness, as a foundation for developing enduring business partnerships across ASEAN.

Strengthening Malaysia–Cambodia economic ties

The business seminar also marked another milestone in bilateral economic cooperation ahead of the 70th anniversary of Malaysia–Cambodia diplomatic relations in 2027.

The event was attended by Her Excellency Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce of Cambodia; His Excellency Dr Shaharuddin Onn, Ambassador of Malaysia to Cambodia; YB Tuan Ng Sze Han, Selangor State EXCO for Investment, Trade and Mobility; and YBhg Oknha Tan Khee Meng, President of the Malaysian Business Chamber in Cambodia (MBCC).

The programme provided Malaysian and Cambodian business leaders with a platform to exchange information, explore market opportunities and strengthen commercial ties.

Business insights and market opportunities

Representatives from the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia, General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, Malaysian Business Chamber in Cambodia (MBCC) and MATRADE Ho Chi Minh City delivered presentations during the seminar.

The sessions covered Cambodia’s market landscape, regulatory requirements, customs procedures and emerging business opportunities, while highlighting Malaysia’s strengths as a competitive regional sourcing hub.

The discussions were designed to give Malaysian exporters greater understanding of the Cambodian market and the practical considerations involved in establishing and expanding business operations there.

B2B meetings open new opportunities

The programme concluded with targeted business-to-business (B2B) meetings involving 29 representatives from 26 Malaysian companies and 41 Cambodian buyers and importers.

The meetings explored commercial opportunities across several sectors, including:

  • Food and beverage (F&B)
  • Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG)
  • Halal products
  • Automotive
  • Lifestyle

The structured business matching sessions provided Malaysian companies with direct access to potential Cambodian business partners and buyers, supporting efforts to expand market access and develop new export opportunities.

MATRADE supports Malaysia’s export diversification

As Malaysia advances its trade diversification agenda, MATRADE said it remains committed to creating high-impact trade promotion initiatives that connect Malaysian exporters with international buyers.

Through programmes such as the Export Acceleration Mission, the agency aims to enhance market access, facilitate international business partnerships and drive sustainable export growth for Malaysian companies.

The Malaysia–Cambodia Business Seminar and B2B Meetings therefore represent another step towards strengthening Malaysia–Cambodia bilateral trade, deepening intra-ASEAN economic cooperation and creating new opportunities for Malaysian exporters in the Cambodian market.
