redBus, one of the world’s leading online bus ticketing platforms, has partnered with the Terengganu State Tourism Department (Tourism Terengganu) to launch the Terengganu Tourism Digitalisation Initiative, a strategic programme designed to strengthen the state’s tourism ecosystem through digital technology.
Announced in Kuala Terengganu on 23 July 2026, the initiative aims to help local tourism operators, attractions, activity providers, community-based tourism businesses and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) expand their digital presence and connect with a wider audience of domestic and international travellers.
Expanding Global Visibility for Local Tourism Businesses
Under the initiative, participating tourism operators will be integrated into the redBus “Things to Do” platform, allowing them to showcase and sell their tourism experiences through a single online marketplace accessed by millions of travellers worldwide.
Guided by the shared vision of “Bringing Terengganu Tourism to the Global Digital Platform Together with redBus,” businesses will receive 100% complimentary digital onboarding, including:
- Product listings
- Electronic ticketing (e-ticketing)
- Inventory management
- Technical support
The initiative is designed to remove common barriers faced by local tourism operators, including reliance on offline bookings and limited digital exposure, enabling businesses to reach today’s digitally connected travellers without incurring upfront costs.
Supporting Terengganu’s Growing Tourism Sector
The partnership comes at a time of strong tourism growth for the state. Terengganu recorded 2.45 million domestic and international visitor arrivals during the first quarter of 2026, highlighting increasing demand for the state’s tourism offerings.
By accelerating the digitalisation of local tourism businesses, the initiative aims to ensure operators are well-positioned to capture this growing visitor market while improving the overall travel experience.
YB Datuk Razali bin Idris, Committee Chairman of Terengganu State Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change, said the initiative supports both Visit Malaysia 2026 and preparations for Visit Terengganu 2027.
“As we advance Visit Malaysia 2026 and build momentum towards Visit Terengganu 2027, strengthening our tourism ecosystem goes beyond attracting visitors — it is about ensuring our local businesses are ready to benefit from increased tourism demand. With millions of visitors already choosing Terengganu, it is equally important that our tourism operators are digitally equipped to capture these opportunities. This partnership with redBus will help bridge the digital gap by making it easier for our tourism operators, SMEs and community-based enterprises to showcase their offerings to a much wider audience, while creating a more seamless travel experience for visitors exploring Terengganu.”
Four Key Objectives to Strengthen Tourism Competitiveness
The Terengganu Tourism Digitalisation Initiative is built around four strategic objectives:
- Increasing the visibility of Terengganu’s tourism attractions and experiences.
- Simplifying access to local activities through seamless online booking.
- Equipping tourism operators and SMEs with digital capabilities.
- Driving sustainable economic growth across the state’s tourism sector.
As part of the collaboration, Tourism Terengganu and redBus will identify and onboard tourism businesses across the state before launching integrated destination marketing campaigns and cross-selling initiatives through the platform.
Participating businesses will also benefit from redBus’ global customer base, marketing support and performance insights to help strengthen their online presence and attract more visitors.
Making Travel More Accessible Through Digital Innovation
Krishnan Ramaswami, Chief Business Officer of redBus, said digitalisation is playing an increasingly important role in how travellers discover, plan and book their journeys.
He explained that the collaboration extends redBus’ services beyond transport by making Terengganu’s tourism experiences more accessible to the millions of users already using the platform across multiple markets.
“Digitalisation is becoming increasingly important in shaping how travellers discover, plan and book their trips. Through this partnership, redBus is extending that convenience beyond transport by helping Terengganu’s tourism businesses become digitally accessible to millions of travellers from within and outside Malaysia already using our platform. Together with Tourism Terengganu, we’re creating new economic opportunities for local operators while making it easier for visitors to experience everything the state has to offer.”
Building a More Sustainable Tourism Ecosystem
By combining digital accessibility with destination marketing, the partnership is expected to strengthen Terengganu’s competitiveness as a tourism destination, increase visitor spending within local communities and create a more resilient tourism ecosystem.
As the state prepares for its next phase of tourism growth, the Terengganu Tourism Digitalisation Initiative is set to play an important role in empowering local businesses, supporting SMEs and ensuring that more tourism operators can benefit from the opportunities presented by Malaysia’s growing visitor economy.
