Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Establish a Joint Task Force on Environmental Social and Governance (ESG)

Kuala Lumpur – The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) established a Joint Task Force in support of the Government’s national commitment to achieve sustainable growth and better planetary health and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The task force will explore opportunities on awareness programmes, seminars and training on the importance of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and other sustainability initiatives for the benefit of members of both organisations.

“We believe that this Joint Task Force would be instrumental to further enhance and transition the private sector, especially SMEs, in meeting the increasing market and regulatory requirement on sustainability and ESG practices. The Covid-19 recovery period has created new opportunities to transform business operations to be in line with these agendas”, explained Tan Sri Dato’ Soh Thian Lai, President of FMM.

“Jointly, we have a combined membership of over 12,500 companies covering different sectors including manufacturing, services, banking, finance and many more. Together, I believe we can surely make major impacts in driving our industry towards its respective policies on ESG and consciously make it a priority in sustaining business goals in the long run”, said Christina, President of MICCI.

She further stressed that MICCI has always advocated ethical business conduct within our membership and with this collaboration with FMM, we will jointly promote the recognition of the private sector in practising ethical business within the ESG framework.
