YPU plans to open 100 T-shoppe outlets in 2010-2013
KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Entrepreneur Development Foundation plans to invest RM11 million to open 100 T-Shoppe outlets in and outside the state until 2013.
In the same period, the state government via the foundation intends to invest RM10 million to open more T-Kafes and T-Lodges or budget hotels.
Foundation chief executive officer Azmi Razik said the two businesses are expected to yield lucrative returns to realise the objective of implementing programmes under the T-Brand.
Between January and October, 19 T-Shoppe shops are fully operational under the RM2 million fund allocated by the state government, he told Bernama.
Fifty-seven people are working in the shops, he said.
In the long-term, the foundation aims to produce retailer entrepreneurs among trained employees of T-Shoppe outlets, he said.
Azmi said the state government had implemented four flagship programmes, namely T-Shoppe (convenient stores), T-Kafe (restaurants), T-Craft (batik clothing and handicraft products) and T-Lodge (budget hotels).
He said the prime aim to implement these projects was to increase the participation of Bumiputera entrepreneurs in selected business sectors apart from providing jobs to locals.
For a start, the state government approved RM2 million and channelled the money to the foundation in 2009 and 2010 to implement the projects, he said.
Azmi said the foundation has been entrusted with the task of drawing up the plan to implement the flagship programmes up to 2013 based on three objectives.
They are to create a significant number of Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the retail business, restaurant, craft products sale and budget hotels.
The masterplan will also provide space for small and medium enterprises to sell their products to T-Shoppe outlets, he said.
"Opening of T-Shoppe, T-Cafe, T-Craft and T-Lodge outlets reflects the state government's serious commitment to develop the entrepreneurial sector in the state," he added.
