Traders Disappointed With Executive Councillors' No-show
KOTA BAHARU, April 4 (Bernama) -- Old Kota Baharu Municipal Council (MPKB) Market traders gathered at the new Bazar Tok Guru here, expecting to meet state executive councillors, including Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, to help them solve their problems.
However, they were disappointed that none of the leaders came to meet them at the bazaar.
MPKB Old Market Traders Association chairman Ab Salim Ahmad said they gathered at the premises hoping to executive council members since 9am.
"Until 11am today, there were no signs of the state government leadership coming here.
"We actually want Datuk Nik Aziz and his executive council members to see the bazaar for themselves and how the environment is not conducive for business as it is cramped, and we also worry about our safety," he told reporters here.
Meanwhile, state Fire and Rescue Department director Azmi Osman and several personnel came to inspect the bazaar''s safety.
Azmi said the fire and rescue department were pleased with the level of safety taken by developers of the bazaar.
The Tok Guru Bazaar issue had been dragging on with traders saying they felt cheated because the space provided for them at the bazaar was small and the rent expensive. -- BERNAMA
