Star Launch Awards For SMEs
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd Thursday launched the inaugural "Star Outstanding Business Awards 2010" (SOBA) to pay tribute to the achievement of small-and-medium enterprises as well as non-listed companies.
SOBA is organised by The Star in collaboration with Maxis as presenter, Standard Chartered as gold Sponsor, Shang Hai as the official magazine, RedFM, 988 and SuriaFm as the official radio stations.
In launching the awards, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah said the recognition accorded to the recipients would encourage companies to develop themselves further to achieve the country's goal in establishing regional, if not world champions, of the future.
"If there is anything that is common in all SMEs is that it requires hard work," he said. Husni also said to set-up and manage a business was not easy and it required a certain amount of courage, perseverance as well some element of luck. The key objectives of the awards, among others, are to recognise the contribution of outstanding businesses to the economy and to motivate home-grown businesses to aim for excellence.
The awards are open to all local enterprises which are not part of a multinational group or listed group, incorporated in Malaysia with foreign equity not exceeding 50 per cent and with a profitable track record of three years. -- BERNAMA
