Solution On Minimum Wage By Year-end, Says Idris
KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- The Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) has conducted a lab on minimum wage and a solution on the modus operandi and quantum is expected to be out by year-end.
Employers and unions from various sectors participated in the lab and gave their inputs on the matter, said chief executive officer Datuk Seri Idris Jala.
"We had inputs from the stakeholders and we are currently in discussion. We hope to come out with a solution by year-end," he told a question-and-answer session at the Indonesian Embassy here today.
He said there were various options on the "modus operandi."
"We can do it on regional basis (Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia) or on sectoral basis," he said, adding that if the minimum wage was set too high, some industries would struggle, and if it was too low that would not mean anything.
So, these are the things that need to be looked into, said Idris, who is also a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.
Earlier, he delivered a keynote address on opportunities to enhance Malaysia-Indonesia collaborations and on the government’s Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) that would benefit businesses.
He invited Indonesian captains of industry to part take in the ETP.
"We encourage Indonesian businessmen to invest in Malaysia. There are many areas that we can collaborate as the ETP offers opportunities in various sectors such as tourism, plantation and Islamic finance," he added. -- BERNAMA
