Singapore To Launch Self-help Portal For SMEs

SINGAPORE, May 31 (Bernama) --  Singapore will on Tuesday launch a new dedicated portal forlocal small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to access information and variousresources to help them take action to raise productivity.

The EnterpriseOne website at www.enterpriseone.gov.sg,managed by SPRING Singapore, an enterprise development agency for growinginnovative companies and fostering a competitive SME sector, containseasy-to-understand productivity concepts, simple tools and other usefulresources on productivity that businesses can tap for self-help. 

An interesting feature of the self-help portal is anonline productivity calculator for businesses to work out their productivityperformance based on four indicators -- labour productivity, labour costcompetiveness, capital productivity and profit-to-value-added ratio. 

In a statement, SPRING Singapore said SMEs made up 99 percent of enterprises, and they employed nearly six out of every 10 workers andgenerated about half of total enterprises' value-added.

However, their value-added per worker at S$79,000(S$1=RM2.29), was trailing behind the total enterprises' average of S$88,000,it said, adding they needed much help to improve their productivity.

"The portal will enable SMEs to learn the basicconcepts, calculate their productivity and use the resources available on thewebsite to raise their productivity," said Png Cheong Boon, chiefexecutive of SPRING Singapore.-- BERNAMA
