Selangor Launches Micro-Credit Scheme To Help People Venture Into Trade

SABAK BERNAM, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim on Thursday launched a micro-credit scheme known as Skimsel with the aim of helping poor people in rural areas obtain capital to do business.

Sixty-one recipients, all of them women, received assistance of RM3,000 each from Abdul Khalid at the launching ceremony held at the Makrufiah mosque, in Kampung Parit Baru, here.

The Selangor government has allocated RM50 million to finance the scheme which will be managed by a foundation called Dar Al Qard Al Hasan Selangor and supervised by the executive councillor in charge of Islam, Malay Culture, Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Datuk Dr Hasan Mohamed Ali.

Abdul Khalid said the loans were given in accordance with the self-reliance concept of ability to borrow and thereby be ready and willing to pay back.
