Satok Permanent Market Will Be A Boon For Kuching

KUCHING, April 9 (Bernama) -- Construction of a permanent farmers' market in Satok here at a cost of RM46 million, is among the state government's initiative to help ensure income of agricultural entrepreneurs in Kuching and quality of agricultural products are protected, said Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Noh Omar.

"We identified the factors that could affect income of these entrepreneurs and product quality and thus came up with this permanent market, which will come under the responsibility of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama)," he said when closing an agriculture entrepreneurship seminar here yesterday.

He said the 3Rs (Reduce, Re-use, Recycle) would be a key feature of the new market and that it would also support downstream industries.

He urged agriculture entreprenuers to be mentors to farmers and make use of funds provided by Tekun for the purpose.

This was important towards making Malaysia a high income nation by 2020, he added. - BERNAMA
