Sarawak Bumiputera entrepreneurs receive funds amounting to RM55m

KUCHING, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- The government disbursed funds amounting RM55mil to 1,973 Bumiputera entrepreneurs and six cooperatives in Sarawak in the first five months of this year, the state assembly was told today.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Office (Bumiputra Entrepreneur Development) Datuk Naroden Majais said the funds were disbursed via state and federal government agencies.

"They are meant for development of Small and Medium Industries (SME), specifically for training programmes like entrepreneurship skills, consultancy services, funding and business premises," he said when replying to a question by Ripin Lamat (BN-Lambir).

Naroden said some 5,322 entrepreneurs received business premises aid from government agencies under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP) that ended in May 2011.

The agencies include Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Malaysian Fisheries Development Board (LKIM), Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama), Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), Mara and local councils.
