Sales value of manufacturing sector in August up to RM49.8b
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The sales value of the manufacturing sector in August saw a double-digit growth of 10.8% to RM49.8 billion against the RM45 billion recorded in the same month last year.
The year-on-year growth in sales value was generated by sales growth in 79 industries out of the 115 covered in the survey, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement today.
As compared with July, the sales value in August perked 0.2% or RM80.3 million, it added.
The department said the sales value in July 2011 was revised to 9.5% from 10.8% previously, to record RM49.7 billion.
In August, the five major industries which recorded a significant sales increase were the manufacture of refined petroleum products (44.4%), manufacture of other basic industrial chemicals except fertilisers and nitrogen compounds (30.6%), the manufacture of semi-conductor devices (13.6%), rubber remilling and latex processing (35.5%) and the manufacture of basic iron and steel products (15%).
The sales value between January and August 2011 in the manufacturing sector recorded a double-digit growth of 10.6% to RM390.2 billion.
