SMEs Contribute Much The Country, Says Ahmad Husni
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- The small and medium enterprise (SME) industry has contributed much to the country by providing opportunities to its supporting partners as well as its employees.
"We have small companies nationwide having corporate social responsibility programmes touching the communities they are operating in," said Second Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, at The Star's Outstanding Business Awards 2010 here.
Ahmad Husni said the SME industry fulfilled its moral responsibility in its provision of pride, honour and a sense of useful purpose to the members of the families that owned them and a sense of purpose to the employees who dedicated their careers to them.
"A moral economy must extend its benevolence to all that needs it. An economy can only be moral if it does not neglect the poor and the under-privileged, regardless of who they are, where they come from and their causes of misfortune," he said.
He said the development of the SME industry was a remarkable story in the annals of the country's economic history.
"It is a sector that is peopled by resourceful owners and industrious employees. This strong drive to succeed can only come from within, from deep within the guts of all those who took the brave challenge to be an SME business owner.
Ahmad Husni said it was this drive that he admired.
"It is this drive that, I believe, if applied all across our economy, will have our ambition to be a high income nation a task that is much easier to achieve.
"It is this drive that will take us to be where we want to be. It is also this drive that I shall apply, in fulfilling the duty that God has given me to bear," he said.
