SME Seminar And Exhibition At Wisma MCA Beginning Friday

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) in association with the SMI Association of Malaysia will hold a half-day seminar and a three-day exhibition for local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) at Wisma MCA here beginning Friday.

Under the theme of "Stimulating SME Growth", MCA President Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said the seminar and exhibition were aimed at helping SMEs to enhance their businesses and to help them overcome bureaucratic obstacles related to financing and related matters.

Ong, who will also launch the seminar and exhibition, said the events would be opened to all SMEs keen on finding ways to improving their enterprises. He said SMEs, which played an important role in Malaysia's industrial and business landscape, needed to grow in line with the country's aspirations.

Chua Tiam Wee, national president of the SMI Association of Malaysia, said a key feature of the exhibition by 15 government agencies involved with SMEs would be personnel from Bank Negara Malaysia's LINK (Laman Informasi Nasihat dan Khidmat) or BNMLINK.

BNMLINK represents one of the central bank's important points of contact with the general public. Chua said BNMLINK personnel would be present to provide a rapid and effective response in matters related to banking, insurance and SME financing.

Other exhibitors include Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), SME Corporation and Credit Guarantee Corporation (CGC). For the seminar, Tan Sri Dr Lim Kok Wing, Founder President of Lim Kok Wing University of Creative Technology, will kick off the event with a talk on "Innovation & Branding for SME Growth" to be followed by Seah Siew Yun, Tax Director at SJ Grant Thornton, on "Goods and Services Tax and its Effects on SMEs".

Thomas Tan Koon Peng, Bank Negara's Deputy Director of Development Finance and Enterprise Development, will speak on "Assisting SME Financing" while Chey Onn Wah, Assistant Vice President, Commercial Relationship and Product Promotion, Commercial Product Management, of RHB Bank Bhd, will touch on "Business Loans for SMEs".

Fozian Ismail, Senior Director, Programme Coordination, of SME Corporation, will share his thoughts on "Government Funding for SMEs" while Hishamudin Ibrahim, Programme Manager at Pusat Tenaga Malaysia, will speak on "Funding for Green Technology". -- BERNAMA
