SME MANAGERS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME for meeting the current needs of the workforce today
Kuala Lumpur - Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad (PSMB) in collaboration with the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) launched the PSMB-MIM SME Managers Development Programme today. Y. Bhg. Dato' Thomas George, Secretary General, Ministry of Human Resources delivered the opening speech on behalf of YB Dato' Noraini Ahmad, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Human Resources. The event was also attended by Y. Bhg. Dato' Ir. Teo Chiang Kok, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PSMB; Y. Bhg. Jen Tan Sri Dato' Zain Hashim (b), Chairman of MIM; Mr. Tiew Hai San, CEO of PSMB; Ms. Margaret Soo, acting CEO of MIM and management teams of both organisations.
Training and skills upgrading of employees at all levels is central to the performance of any organisation. It is especially for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to proactively strengthen their human capital competencies to adapt quickly to the demands of our constantly changing business environment.
Organised primarily by PSMB with MIM as the training provider, the SME Managers Development Programme was designed to enhance and apply their accumulated knowledge and experience to address the challenges of the real world, in order to help their organizations meet business objectives, achieve sustainable competitive advantage and remain resilient in a rapidly global market.
The programme aims to equip SME managers with the ability to better understand their personal behavioural profile for self-improvement, upgrades their managerial leadership know-how for greater performance and gauge their business acumen, improves their competencies in application of management concepts whilst gaining more management and business insights and concepts for improving business productivity and competitiveness.
In her speech, YB Dato' Noraini applauded PSMB and MIM effort in providing this kind of programme. She believed that this programme is timely in assisting SMEs Managers with roles and responsibilities of a managerial leader and should be used by all SMEs in developing their managers to their fullest potential.
This comprehensive programme has eight modules consisting of six different categories - Personal Management, Unit/Team Management, Functional Management, Organisational Management, Industry Management and Global Management. The programme is open to general managers, senior managers and managers of SMEs and to those interested in managing enterprises.
Y. Bhg. Dato. Ir. Teo Chiang Kok also mentioned that "the SME Managers Development Programme was developed after inputs received from the various dialogue sessions with SMEs employers on the needs to raise the managerial skills amongst SMEs." The SME Managers Development Programme is an approved programme under the SMETAP scheme. The programme will benefit 23 SME managers for its first intake which is scheduled to start in February 2009.
Realising the importance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), PSMB and MIM would like to encourage more SMEs managers to further enhance their managerial skills in their quest to enhance their competencies and expand their businesses. There will also be a special programme designed for SME CEOs who need to better understand their leadership roles in managing an enterprise.
