SME Entrepreneurs Encouraged To Take Advantage Of Cafta
ALOR SETAR, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- Local operators of small and medium enterprises (SME) should take advantage of the launch of the China-Asean Free Trade Area (Cafta) on Jan 1, to expand their product market.
Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said China offered the best market as there was high demand for Malaysian halal products there.
He said the ministry would continue helping SME entrepreneurs to promote and market their products in China. Speaking to reporters after launching the Agro Kasih-I Agrobank programme here today, Mukhriz, who is also Jerlun MP, said he wanted SME operators to work harder to promote their products in the Chinese market and benefit from Cafta's price drop to increase sales.
"When Cafta was launched in Nanning, China, corporate and government representatives from China encouraged entry of Malaysian products as they were halal and of good quality," he said.
In relation to that, Mukhriz hoped Malaysian entrepreneurs would attend the exhibition to be held in China throughout the year so that they could display and market their products in the country.
With the implementation of Cafta, China and six Asean nations -- Brunei, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore -- will enjoy zero import tariff on over 9,000 product categories. -- BERNAMA
