SME Corp Joins Forces With Korea's SBC To Help SMEs

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- The Small and MediumEnterprise Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp Malaysia) is ready to facilitatelocal SMEs to venture the area of machinery, tool and die making withassistance from South Korea's Small and Medium Business Corporation (SBC).

SME Corp's Chief Executive Director Datuk Hafsah Hashimsaid when local SMEs have the knowledge of tool and die making, it would helpthem cut the cost of manufacturing be it from the food, textile or electronicsectors.

With basic knowledge in tool and die making, they wouldalso become more competitive, Hafsah said during a media briefing on the SMEBranding and Packaging Mobile Gallery, here on Tuesday.

 The mobile gallery, a recent initiative by SME Corp andLimKokWing University of Creative Technology (LUCT), is a bus which travels andmeets entrepreneurs to introduce concepts on improving their packaging andbranding.

Hafsah said following a discussion with SBC yesterday,they have also come out with a new programme under which SBC will send retiredKorean experts from various domains to Malaysia to help in the tool and diemaking field.

"The experts will be attached to SME Corp and bringthe country's SMEs to the next level in terms of machinery, tool and diemaking," Hafsah said.

She also said the establishment of Korea Desk by theMalaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) would complement SME Corp'seffort to assist local SMEs to compete in the global market.

On the mobile gallery, she said RM120,000 had been spentto refurbish the bus. "It will be travelling to at least 20 locationsacross Peninsular Malaysia this year."

The mobile gallery is a pilot study to test the responsefrom people and  SME Corp hopes toincrease it to five buses by end of this year if the service receives goodresponse, Hafsah added.

Officers on duty from SME Corp and LUCT will be presentat each of the location visited to provide technical and business consultationto SMEs.

Last week, the mobile gallery attracted 300 SMEs inMalacca and 45 of them registered to undergo a training workshop.-- BERNAMA
