SDSI centre to be managed by Mydin Group
MELAKA, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- The state government has agreed to hand over the management of the "One District One Industry" (SDSI) showcase centre in Kota Fesyen here to Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd following its failure to operate smoothly.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam was optimistic Mydin would be able to run the centre professionally and bring profits to the premise owners.
"Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd Managing Director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin has expressed intention to develop the SDSI centre, as such, we have decided to hand over the centre's management to the Mydin group," he told reporters after opening the Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M), adjacent to the SDSI centre, at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh today.
The SDSI showcases commercially viable handicraft produced by small-and medium-enterprises nationwide and unique to a district in a move to promote them in the local and global arenas.
Meanwhile, six KR1M thrift shops would open for business in the state before the year-end to offer shoppers cheaper goods.
"The move to open more outlets follows the encouraging response received, thus far, from patrons to the KRIM outlet in Tengkera," he said.
Mohd Ali said additional outlets in the state would help the lower-income buy essential goods without feeling the pressure of higher prices charged by some retailers.
