Perak to create new industries to achieve developed state status by 2015
IPOH, Jan 30 (Bernama) - The Perak government will create new industries and sectors such as shipping, solar and defence and enhance education and automotive to achieved developed state status by 2015.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the government will also review the position and needs of existing industrial areas to ensure that they are competitive to meet current needs, particularly in technology.
"We need to review, change our way and approach based on the strength of the areas, including creating cluster industrial areas," he said in the programme "Selamat Pagi Perak Bersama Dr Zambry" on Perakfm broadcasted live here today.
The programme hosted by Perak RTM Programming Division head Fauzi Ramli was participated by Bernama assistant editor Hafizah Kamaruddin, The Star chief reporter Mazwin Nik Anis and New Straits Times senior journalist Alang Bendahara.
On Dec 27, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the construction of Sungkai Defence Industry Centre in Tanjung Malim to open up big business opportunities as catalyst for economic growth.
The state government plans to develop new areas on the west coast including Changkat Jering and Perak Tengah to create socio economic development spillover to Hutan Melintang, Bagan Datoh, Teluk Intan, Lekir, Sitiawan, Parit and Trong.
It also encourages the building of more public and private educational institutions as Seri Iskandar is home to Universiti Teknologi Petronas and has a Universiti Teknologi Mara branch.
Zambry expects rapid industrial development in the next four or five years with development of the automobile industry and cluster industry by the state government.
On the allocation of 50% of 2012 budget of RM915.26 million for the people's welfare, he said it was to ensure balanced development where the emphasis was not only on physical development but also human development.
Physical development is made via investment between the government and private sector where foreign investors can reduce government development costs.
The Perak government is into its second phase after implementation of 3P programme, which encourages state leaders to meet the people and solve their problems.
