National Entrepreneurship Council of Higher Education launched

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 (Bernama) -- A National Entrepreneurship Council of Higher Education was launched today to strengthen and enhance efforts to promote the inculcation of entrepreneurship values in higher education institutions.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said among the council's roles was to be a catalyst for long-term development of an entrepreneurial culture in higher education and assist in providing a conducive entrepreneurship ecosystem.

"We hope that the council will act as a bridge between academics, industry, entrepreneurs and relevant agencies and be able to coordinate the development of entrepreneurship education to be aligned with national policies," he said when launching the initiative tonight in conjunction with "Entrepreneurship in Higher Education; Increasing Competitiveness, Enhancing Resilience" seminar, here.

Mohamed Khaled also announced the establishment of the Young Entrepreneurs Network (AYEnet) as a vehicle for the Higher Education Leadership Academy's (AKEPT) efforts to drive and develop Malaysia's pool of research leaders and academia with entrepreneurial qualities.

"AKEPT will ensure that AYEnet will continue to assist all higher learning institutions to look at entrepreneurship in a holistic manner so as to promote and sell their expertise in the area of interest so that they can contribute to the desired human capital development as well as nation building," he said.

He said when introducing entrepreneurship into higher education institutions, contents and methods that encourage entrepreneurial learning must be developed through cooperative learning, taking entrepreneurs as models, experiencing and developing ideas, working out problems solutions and engaging team members.
