My Agro Hypermart offers agro-based products at much cheaper prices
PUTRAJAYA, Jan 4 (Bernama) -- My Agro Hypermart, a one-stop centre (OSC) for the country's agro-based products, will begin operations on Friday with prices as much as 30% cheaper compared to similar products on the open market.
The outlet, which offers 2,045 products from 250 local entrepreneurs including ready-made food, beverages, frozen food, canned food, cakes and biscuits, food ingredients as well as health and beauty products, is located at the Malaysian Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS), Serdang and will be open from 10am to 10pm.
A branch of the 'Kedai Ikan Rakyat 1Malaysia' (KIR1M), which was recently launched in Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur and offering wet products including chicken and vegetables up to 40 per cent cheaper than the open market, will also be located at the centre to be launched by Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar on Sunday.
The Secretary-General of the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry, Datuk Mohd Hashim Abdullah said the centre was an initiative by the ministry to implement the eighth entry point project (EPP) under the agricultural National Key Economic Area (NKEA), namely the establishment of an Integrated Food Park.
He said the project was achieved through the cooperation of the private sector, namely Rukun Saksama Sdn Bhd which forked out an investment of RM10.5 million, and the products there were obtained at a much cheaper price directly from the producers of the products without involving any middleman.
